Great experience despite some unexpected twists
5/5

We’ve been looking forward to this trip since January. When we first reached out to the travel agency, they were super responsive and put together such a beautifully detailed plan, which is why we chose them. However, as we continued communicating later on, their replies became a bit slow, making us a little anxious. Thankfully, everything worked out in the end.

However, due to a last-minute hotel change, we ended up paying extra, which was slightly over our expected budget. It was also unfortunate that high water levels at one of the hotels prevented us from staying the full two days, depriving us of the chance to fully relax and enjoy the experience.

Despite these unexpected twists, our guide Paul was super experienced and sharp. He took us to see a leopard hunting, crossed the river into the Marsh Pride territory, and let us meet my favorite lion queen, Kito. Watching a herd of elephants pass by was another moment I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. On top of that, he introduced us to rock climbing and geothermal hot spring pools, leaving us with so many precious memories.

All in all, it was a truly unforgettable journey. We completely fell in love with Africa and can't wait to come back next time!

A reliable small tour operator with a great guide, though its risk management could be better.
5/5

I have loved animals since I was a child, and visiting Africa has long been my dream. This trip finally made that dream come true. I’m so grateful to Ways of Africa, along with Paul (the owner), Janet and our safari guide Paul, for making this African journey so smooth and enjoyable.

I chose Ways of Africa after sending my itinerary requirements to more than a dozen tour agencies. Among all of them, Ways of Africa replied the fastest. Paul listened carefully to my requests, built an itinerary that matched my needs and revised it promptly. I was really impressed at the beginning. Although the initial quotation was a bit high, we negotiated the price several times and reached a fair rate. I soon paid the deposit and signed the contract.

That said, after the deposit was paid, Paul’s response slowed down noticeably. I kept waiting for the hotel vouchers, but we still did not receive the full set by the time we departed. Paul later explained that they are a small tour operator and cannot cover all hotel costs upfront. Some hotels only release vouchers once full payment is completed. I do understand this arrangement. However, if he had informed me of this policy before our trip started, it would have saved me from anxious, uncertain waiting. With the slow replies, I did worry a little whether everything would work out. Fortunately, Ways of Africa turned out to be very reliable. Every scheduled activity was fulfilled, and we received many wonderful unexpected surprises. All items listed in the itinerary were included with no hidden extra fees, which was excellent.

The safari vehicle was fairly new and spacious, built to seat six guests. With only four of us on board, we had plenty of room and rode very comfortably. It came with a fridge to keep drinks cold and charging sockets for our devices. Our guide Paul kept the vehicle spotless every day and even used fragrance to keep the air fresh inside.

I especially want to praise our guide Paul. He is an outstanding safari guide — witty, friendly, warm and great to talk with. We had countless conversations. He is like a walking encyclopedia of wildlife, sharing fascinating facts about animals throughout the drive and answering all our questions. Whenever we spotted animals far away, he could immediately identify the species. He has an incredible eye for wildlife and can detect animals from a great distance. Thanks to him, we witnessed many incredible moments, including leopard hunting and lions feeding. He also took us to iconic landmarks, such as the Kenya-Tanzania border and the Equator line.

I am deeply passionate about lions and follow pride dynamics closely. I expressed my wish to see the Marsh Pride. Our planned camp was quite far from their territory, making the trip inconvenient. But at my request, Paul went out of his way to take us there. We successfully saw Queen Kito of the Marsh Pride and nearly all members of the Topi Pride. I am truly thankful for this. Hopefully next time, I can see the Topi Boys that I’ve been hoping to meet.

Paul also recommended extra activities. The hiking at Hell’s Gate was fantastic. My favourite part was the natural hot springs there; swimming and soaking felt incredibly relaxing. On our final day before departure, he brought us to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which was not originally on our itinerary. It was such a lovely surprise. On the day we left, owner Paul and his wife Janet came to see us off, which felt really warm and thoughtful.

Overall, this was an unforgettable and wonderful trip. Still, there were a few accommodation hiccups worth mentioning.

First, the delayed hotel vouchers I mentioned earlier. Second, our originally booked Keekorok Camp closed unexpectedly. Paul only notified us about this two weeks before our departure. We hoped to find an alternative hotel at the same price, but the replacement Savora Mara Camp had a notable price difference. I thought the matter had already been settled, yet when we arrived in Nairobi, we were told we needed to cover the price gap. After multiple discussions, we agreed on a 70/30 split between the company and us. This situation could have been handled much better with earlier communication and more transparency.

Another issue was our stay at Lake Naivasha Sopa. We were supposed to stay there for two nights, but rising river levels forced us to move to Lake Naivasha Resort for the first night. This resort had lower standards and a cheaper rate, yet we did not receive a refund for the price difference. This somewhat affected our experience. I understand emergencies can happen, but as a small tour operator, Ways of Africa’s capacity to handle unexpected crises and risks could be improved for future trips.

All things considered, I am so glad I booked this trip with Ways of Africa. Both the owner and our guide are truly amazing people. I will come back to Africa again, and I wish Ways of Africa continued success!

Amazing Safari Experience from Start to Finish
5/5

We recently booked a safari through Paul at Ways of Africa and we can honestly say it was incredible from start to finish. We had no idea where to start with booking a safari as we’ve never done this type of holiday before and so were a bit nervous about the process. There are so many companies out there and the amount of information is so overwhelming however when we came across Ways of Africa we knew this was the company we were going to book with! Paul made the booking process super easy, he was very quick to respond and was able to answer any questions we had right from the beginning. Paul tailor made our itinerary to exactly how we wanted and it was perfect! When we arrived Paul’s communication continued to be efficient, providing us with the details of our driver John who would pick us up to start our safari adventure. John was just amazing. He made us feel so comfortable from the very start and nothing was too much trouble. He was able to answer all of our questions and gave us local hints and tips. He really made our safari perfect, I genuinely don’t think it would have been the same without him! John stayed with us from start to finish and made sure we got to each stop of our destination efficiently and safely. If you are thinking about going on a safari in Kenya I cannot recommend Ways of Africa enough!

The best experience we could have had!
5/5

My friend and I did a “midrange” type safari and did not expect our jeep tour to be private!! Of all the safari’s we did this was the best one. The owner and his wife greeted us personally at our starting point, and brought us surprise gift baskets. We loved our guide, who was so knowledgeable and friendly. And the style of jeep with the lifted roof so we could stand up to look outside was the best. Other safaris had a different style of jeep that only allows sitting.

I’m so glad I chose Ways of Africa for my Kenya safari!
5/5

First of all, a big thank you to Paul, the owner of the company. I started planning my trip in May and contacted nearly 20 local safari operators in Kenya. Ways of Africa was the only one that could accommodate all of my hotel choices. I specifically wanted some of the more popular lodges, and almost every other operator told me they were fully booked and couldn’t be arranged.

I have to admit that I was a little concerned after booking, as Paul could sometimes be slow on reply, which made me anxious in the weeks leading up to the trip. This is probably the only thing I think they could improve on. But once the trip actually started, everything turned out to be so smooth and perfect. All the hotels I requested were arranged exactly as planned, and the whole itinerary went perfectly according to schedule.

And a huge thank you to our guide, Paul! He was very experienced, incredibly knowledgeable about wildlife, and such a warm and friendly person. This was my first time bringing my parents to Africa, so I’m especially grateful that we had such a great guide. He helped us see almost everything on our safari wish list!

Every morning, he was already waiting by the vehicle before we came out, and he kept the vehicle very clean throughout the trip. He was always happy to explain things along the way, answered all of our questions, and shared so much interesting knowledge about the animals and the places we visited. He also knew many beautiful spots for taking photos, which was a great bonus!

Our Kenya trip was truly wonderful and memorable. I would definitely recommend Ways of Africa and our guide Paul to my friends.

Incredible Safari Experience with Exceptional Guide
5/5

My husband, son, and I found the safari tour to be an amazing experience from start to finish! Paul, our driver and guide, was truly outstanding. He knew so much about all the incredible animals in the park and shared his knowledge with us in such an interesting and engaging manner.
What really stood out was how much genuine care and respect he showed—not only to us, but also to other tourists and fellow guides.

Some of the highlights included seeing leopards, cheetahs, hippos, and so many other amazing animals. We even had the incredible thrill of witnessing a successful lion hunt—an unforgettable experience and a true glimpse into the wonder of the natural world.

Excellent value for money and great communication before and throughout the trip. I would highly recommend Paul and this safari experience to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure!

Great guides
4/5

The process of booking was quite stressful as, when I asked for the vouchers for the ETA, I realised that the accommodation had not been booked for the correct dates. Early confirmation of accommodation would probably have avoided this and the issue was rectified but it led to some uncertainty prior to travelling. Once in Kenya, all was very smoothly organised and the two guides we had were excellent and the game drives were amazing. All accommodation was excellent.

5/5

We had the most incredible 3-day game drive in Masai Mara. Spotting all the Big 5 was amazing, but watching the wildebeest river crossing from the perfect viewing spot was pure magic. A huge shoutout to our guide, Paul—he was absolutely fantastic and made this whole experience so special. Couldn't have asked for a better guide!
