Company Profile

Extraordinary Journeys was founded by Marcia and Elizabeth Gordon, a mother-daughter team with decades of experience living and working in Africa.

There are few people who know more about the safari world than Marcia Gordon. If there were a Ph.D. in African Travel, we would be referring to Marcia as “Dr. Gordon.” During eleven years in Kenya, she had three children, built a house and a company (Park East Tours), earned her pilot’s license, studied traditional medicine and expanded her encyclopedic, first-hand knowledge of properties throughout sub-Saharan Africa. After selling Park East and leading the travel division of F.M. Allen, Marcia started Extraordinary Journeys with Elizabeth. Marcia prides herself on ever-so-gently encouraging clients to venture outside their comfort zone because she believes that is where the transformational opportunities of travel take place.

It’s no surprise that as Marcia’s daughter, Elizabeth inherited the travel gene. Born in Kenya, her instinct for exploration was encouraged by her parents, who included her in their many visits to exceptional lodges and properties. After graduating from Stanford University, Elizabeth (also a pilot) worked for the prestigious Wilderness Safaris in Namibia, where she managed high-end luxury safari camps. Her knowledge of marketing and customer relations was honed while operating a successful vacation rental management and booking agency in Buenos Aires called International Nest.

Today Extraordinary Journeys is a fast growing team, passionate about African travel and with more than 40 years of combined Africa experience. Our many years of working on the ground in Africa are your guarantee of the safari of your dreams, and Extraordinary Journeys makes it a priority to provide wonderful service before, during and after your safari. As a result of our efforts and experience we have been recognized by National Geographic Traveler, the Wall Street Journal, Travel + Leisure, Departures and many other publications.
