Company Profile

As the owner, travel consultant and tour guide for Shell’s Africa Safaris and Tours, Michelle Besnard has travelled extensively throughout Africa, and here is her story:

I first visited Africa when I was 18 years old, spending 2 months travelling through Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa. From the moment I arrived, I was in awe of the beautiful landscapes, amazing wildlife and vibrant cultures that makes Africa one of the most diverse continents in the world. Little did I know at the time, that this trip would change the course of my life.

I remember sitting on a beautiful beach in Mozambique and my guide at the time saying ‘ I have the best job in the world’. I couldn’t argue with that, so when I returned home I spent some time in the remote Northern Territory to qualify as a Field Guide.

Although I was qualified as a guide back home, Africa still had my heart and I was desperate to see her again. I set out on my second trip shortly after this, travelling for 2 months from Nairobi down to Johannesburg.

Upon my return I realised that I wanted to share my love of Africa with the world, so I qualified as a Travel Agent and began working as an Africa Travel Specialist. Since then, I have completed courses in African Wildlife, Southern Africa tourism and I am currently completing the FGASA Field Guide training in South Africa to improve my bush skills and knowledge on all things Africa. This is not just a job for me, this is my passion and I love helping guest plan their perfect African holidays.

Over the last 8 years, I have travelled to Africa many times, sharing its beauty with friends, family and guests alike.

As a tour guide, I love sharing ‘firsts’ with my guests…the ‘first’ time they see the mighty Victoria Falls…the ‘first’ time they watch elephants cross the Chobe River…the ‘first’ time they taste local cuisine..the ‘first’ time they witness an African sunset. It’s pure magic.

As you can probably tell, I absolutely love Africa and I am eager to introduce you to the continent that stole my heart.
