Kidepo and Karamoja with Grassrootz Adventure
5/5

During my Christmas break I decided to go to Kidepo and Karamoja with a friend, organized by Grassrootz Adventures. We took off in Kampala with James as our driver. Although it was a long day, it was worth traveling because we crossed the whole country, with its different views, sceneries, landscapes and cultural settlements. It was nice to see the different places and we got an idea of the country Uganda. When it was dark we arrived in Buffalo Base (the guesthouse near Kidepo) where we were welcomed with a nice dinner. The beautiful sky with its innumerous amount of stars made the evenings somewhat mystic.
The next day we went to Kidepo National Park for a game drive. We had a great morning. There were almost no other tourists and we saw many different animals. We had a very enthusiastic ranger, who was very eager to show us as many animals as possible. The park is very big and breathtaking. There are almost no other tourists, which makes the experience even better. In the center of the park is a nice resting area, where it is possible to have lunch while watching zebras coming for a drink at the water point. In the afternoon and the next morning, we did another game drive going to different parts of the park. In the afternoon of our third day we went for a village walk with the people from Buffalo Base.
On the fourth day we set off to Kotido. Kotido is a bit more south and is located in the Karamoja region. The landscape is different and while driving you see people herding their cows or goats. In the afternoon we visited the Manyata village, which is a very big village where people live in traditional houses and wear traditional clothing. It was interesting to see how these people live. Karamoja Arts Guesthouse was a very nice place to stay where you sleep in a banda (the traditional house). It is also a good place to experience the isolatedness of the area. It is comfortable although you are in the middle of nowhere.
The next morning we went to Moroto, again a bit more south and in the Karamoja area. It is located near Mount Moroto, which we climbed in the afternoon. It is a very windy place and a bit bigger than Kotido.
The last day we traveled back to Kampala.

James is a very good driver and very nice company to spent your days with. He takes care that everything goes well, he stops when you want to take pictures and he knows a lot about the country. Besides, he was also very enthusiastic about the places we visited which made it more fun to spend time together.

Overall, I would really recommend to go to the north of Uganda, because it so different than the south, it is still very pure and Kidepo park is worth visiting. It is a good combination of safari, landscapes and culture, and you get a good idea about Uganda. Grassrootz Adventures organises everything very well, the communication went quick and clear. The accommodations and food were very fine and the safari was great. Thank you very much for the whole trip!!

Unforgettable journey
5/5

We booked our trip in Uganda via Grassrootz Adventures for two weeks. The result could not have been better. At first we had a great driver and guide who had great knowledge and expertise about the safaries and the country itself and had lots of humour. Also the unique accomodations which we used during our trip where very good and decent with always very friendly staff members. One night we slept with monkeys on our roof, the other night with hippo's grazing in our frontyard. The large variety of activities we did were unforgettable, from safaries in our jeep with open roof during sunset to a gorgeous hike to the IK tribe in the mountains on the border with Kenya, everything had their own special magic. We were also free to make adjustments to the travel scheme if possible, when we wanted something different. This gesture shows the intentions of Grassrootz Adventures to make the perfect tour for their costumers and to make sure that nothing lacks your perfect holiday. It is impossible to see the whole country in two weeks but thanks to Grazzroots Adventures it miraculously feels like we did.

Amazing Guiding and Adventure
5/5

The trip was really good. We've been two weeks with the Toyota Land Cruiser and David Oyoo (the best guide) in Uganda. We've seen the whole Country as it's best. The northern region is by far the most beautiful part of Uganda, especially Kidepo National Park. I would recommend everyone Grassrootz.

Wild life adventures East Africa (Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya)
5/5

In nov/ dec '16 we travelled with Grassrootz to Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Before booking we had intensive contact with Sander to ensure that this trip would be exactly what we wanted. And it really was!
George our driver was the best! We truly worked as a team, as he did his best to ensure that we had the best time possible. He provided us with so much information on both the wild life as on Ugandan history.

We stayed in basic banda's as well as in more luxurious lodges. The basic banda's have all the essentials, provided that the electricity and water works. But off course as this is Africa, some times either or both of them are simply not working. All the accommodations had friendly and helpful staff.

We deviated a bit from our original travel agenda due to the fact there was a small issue in the Rwenzori region. This was done in mutual agreement, and gave us a chance to include a visit to the Rhino sanctuary and Kampala.

All and all we were really happy with our trip, with our driver and Grassrootz overall. We would recommend them to anyone who wants to travel through East Africa.

Our Stick2Uganda safaridreams became with Grassroots an experiencefull reality
5/5

In 2015 the Foundation Stick2Uganda planned a trip to Uganda with 20 students of the Christelijk Lyceum Veenendaal and 5 teachers. Grassroots supported us by realising our program. Our intention was to make a community based program with research and contacts in local community’s. Grassroots helped us finding good accommodations and the right contacts in the community. Beside this program Grassroots planned for us an experiences full Safari-trip with fine guides and good accommodations.

Surprising and amazing experience
5/5

We wanted to make a private tour through uganda for its nature and birds with a car and driver/ guide
Our contact person in Holland, Sander, managed a driver who was a birdwatcher himself. How lucky can men be??
John, our driver, was very kind, helpful and experienced. The roads in Uganda are very bad, but we felt safe!!
We stayed in hotels, banda's and tents on the most beautiful places. A view on the lake, rainforest our other spots with wildlife.
All meals and dinners were good and we had a very nice and good Christmas in one of the lodge places.
Everything was like agreed with Sander. We look back on a great adventure and very good organization.

Living among the Karamojong and visit Kidepo and Murchinson Falls
3/5

In October 2016 we made a trip from Kampala to the northeast of Uganda (Kidepo) and from there to the mid-west (Fort Portal). We had a fantastic driver (George) who was not only an excellent driver, but also an excellent guide during the game drives in Kidepo and Murchison Falls.
The guesthouses were basic and often authentic, but in Moroto we have refused the offered place because it was not safe and far below par. In the northeast you should not expect luxury, but it is desirable that the hostess of Buffalo Base (near Kidepo) learns some basic hygiene rules.
The trip was well mapped out, we had excellent guides and rangers. We always felt safe, even though we sometimes came to exciting places.
Advice to Grazz Rootz is to check the accommodations in advance to see whether it meets the basic expectations of travelers from Europe.

Gave an organized feeling by friendly people
4/5

It was great! Everybody wants you to experience the best of a little piece of Africa. The people are proud of their nature in their country and want to share it. They all used passion in their work. I always felt really safe and enjoyed every single minute. Despite the fact that 'this is Africa' I felt everything was organized beforehand.

A good trip
4/5

In total we were with 9 people, that was a little bit to much for the car. It fits, but 8 would be nicer. The tripp was good, the driver was nice. The second night we slept at the red chili camp and not the firtst night what would be normal. That meants that the gamedrive was short, that makes that the driver had to drive quitte hard to get on time on the boat. That was not so nice. The boattripp was nice, the walk beautifull and the gamedrive could be longer. The accomodation both days where fine. I had a good time.
