Unforgettable wildlife in Kenya & Uganda, but errors made this trip stressful!
Despite booking nearly a year in advance, our safari was plagued by serious planning errors and poor communication. Gorilla permits were not secured until I asked, flight was not booked until I followed up, and in Tanzania she even booked the wrong dates and wrong parks — wanted me to pay upfront $1,400 for her mistake before eventually paying it herself with repeated pressure.
Tanzania, Because Anne had booked the wrong dates for the safari it led to late bookings and we ended up with a subpar fill-in guide who spoke minimal English and lacked initiative. Logistics in Tanzania were especially poor, with wasted days in hotels or in parks with very little wildlife — the kind of problems that proper planning and expertise should have avoided.
To make matters worse, Anne informed the drivers in Uganda and Rwanda (that she had contracted for us) about the issues and potential for a bad review, which left me having to explain the situation directly to them. This created an awkward and uncomfortable dynamic that should have remained private between the operator and me.
Kenya was great, and the gorilla trek in Uganda was truly unforgettable — both were highlights of the trip because they had been booked correctly from the beginning. Unfortunately, everything surrounding Tanzania was mishandled. Overall, while the wildlife itself was memorable, the operator’s handling was not. I would not recommend this company — costly mistakes, wasted time, and unnecessary stress overshadowed what should have been a once-in-a-lifetime safari.

Wonderful Safari Experience
After extensive research, we chose to book with Mega Wild Safaris as they offered exactly the trip that we wanted - a safari in Tanzania and trekking to see the chimpanzees and gorillas in Uganda. From the outset, we dealt with Anne who was excellent to deal with. She replied promptly to our first enquiry, and was then endless patient with all our queries and questions. We asked for some small changes to the itinerary which were accommodated without any problems. Our tour included several flights, various lodges, different guides in the two countries and all worked perfectly. We saw all the big five, had numerous encounters with other wildlife, an unforgettable Mara wildebeest migration in Tanzania and then the amazing chimp and gorilla experiences. It was great value for the tour cost. Our guides, Godwin in Tanzania and Eddy in Uganda were skilled, experienced, knowledgeable and good fun to travel with. Thank you both for making our holiday so successful. We are very happy with the way the whole trip unfolded and have no problem in recommending Mega Wild to other travelers.
One small recommendation - we fitted a lot in to the 12 days and were on the move to a different lodge every day. We had some long days driving to get round to all the destinations. It would be worth considering staying two nights in some lodges just to have a slightly more relaxed tour. Having said that, we did love every day we had on this safari.
