An incredible adventure that far exceeded all expectations.

Our family of four (kids 11 and 9) opted for a nine-day tour of Botswana/Zimbabwe, starting in Maun and ending at Victoria falls, including four unforgettable nights camping. From the outset, communication with Anna was prompt, informative, and reassuring, giving us the confidence to travel as a young family to such a remote and wild location.

The camping, although a little daunting, was immersive and truly memorable. We’ll never forget falling asleep and waking during the night to the sounds of the wild.

Our crew were outstanding. Name was a master at preparing delicious meals over the campfire. DT and Buka always had the camp perfectly set up for our arrival, complete with a warm fire waiting. But a special mention must go to our guide, Chief. His deep respect, knowledge, and love for the wildlife were evident in everything he did. He constantly went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience possible.

The mokoro ride was surreal – at one point we had to hop out and navigate around a stubborn elephant feeding in the middle of the river! The boat cruises on the Delta, Chobe, Zambezi rivers were equally stunning. And finishing at the mighty Victoria Falls was the perfect finale.

Over the course of our tour, we saw over forty different animal species. Highlights included leopards (including a cub), lions, hyenas nursing their pups, painted dogs with eight pups, warthogs, hippos, crocs, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and of course, the ever-majestic elephants.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 16 days of travel around Botswana and Victoria Falls with Sekanka Travel. Sekanka is a very responsive family company that was happy interact with us and provide great suggestions while we were planning our visit to Botswana. They were very flexible about including additional places we wanted to visit (for example Tsodilo Hills and the Okavango Panhandle) and provided us with a fully detailed itinerary.

We were looked after very well while we were there by our Sekanka guide Thalo, and the staff at the places we stayed. Accommodation was excellent and we were particularly impressed by Planet Baobab and staff at the camp we stayed at in the Okavango Panhandle. Transport provided by Sekanka was a van and a four wheel drive driven by Thalo which suited us very well as we both enjoy a good road trip. Thalo was an excellent driver on challenging roads.

We particularly enjoyed the many opportunities to walk or travel in boats and mokoro with guides to learn about trees, birds, animals and rock drawings. We appreciated the chance to visit villages and towns, meet people, and even learn to weave a bowl.

All in all a great trip and we have many many photographs to remind us of it.

Personalized experience and good value
5/5

My family and I (including my cousin and my young adult daughter) greatly enjoyed our 10-day “camping safari” with the Sekanka crew (five nights of camping with four nights in various lodges/hotels). Our guide Matcha had an extensive knowledge of the animals and how to find them, and we were thrilled to meet so many lions, hippos, wild dogs, elephants, a couple of leopards and more. This was definitely a camping safari so perhaps not for everyone, but we are campers, so for us, this was “luxury camping.” The tents had comfy cot-style beds with mattresses and warm blankets, and a back enclosure with a cartridge toilet and a bucket shower that the crew filled up with warm water for showers. The three additional staff members did a great job of taking care of us, and I was especially impressed at how our cook Naim managed to rustle up excellent meals on an open fire. Also, my daughter must follow a gluten-free diet, and Naim came up with something good for Jen every meal. She was like a mother lion when hungry campsite prowlers rushed to eat the gluten-free toast (“That is for JEN!”). I would definitely recommend this company. Botswana has a true hospitality ethos; even when things went awry, as to be expected when traveling in remote places, we always knew that we would be well taken care of. We are so thankful that we were able to go on this trip as a family, and made many memories.
