Amazing Safari !
5/5

From the very beginning, the communication during the booking process was great and very prompt, which gave us a lot of confidence. Everything that was promised was fully delivered by Steve, with no disappointments at all.
We did a 1-night Tsavo East safari, and it was perfectly organized. We were assigned a top-notch driver and guide, Arnold, who truly made our game drives fantastic. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and made a real effort to ensure we had the best possible wildlife sightings and overall experience.
Overall, it was a fantastic safari experience with Steve and Richard Safaris, and I would highly recommend them to anyone planning a safari.

Memorable and a must do safari!
5/5

My friend and i did our 3 nights/2 days safari with Steve and Richard Safaris and it was the best decision! Steve was very responsive prior to the safari, he gave us the best advice from where to stay to what to do when. He was upfront about all pricing that when we got to the safari, there were no surprise costs. Our driver/guide was Samuel (Sami) and he was amazing. He had all the knowledge about the animals we saw and the Masai. He knew where to go to spot the animals we wanted to see. We even got to see animals that we were not expecting. We got to see the big 4 (we didn’t see a rhino as the one that was around was aggressive, so for safety reasons we didn’t get to see it) but everything else and more we got to see. Sami made sure to get us as close as possible to the animals and was also able to follow them from a safe proximity, We saw 3 lions (2 lions and 1 lioness) when they were moving from one spot to the next for shade and Sami explained to us that the other lion was probably the brother of the lion who was the mate of the lioness. We saw another lioness hunt. We saw a leopard who was hiding under a bush for shade. We saw 2 cheetahs on different days. We also saw ostriches, which we did not expect to.
The whole experience was just wonderful and memorable, and it is all thanks to Steve and Sami who made sure to not only ask what we expect to see prior to the safari but who were also knowledgeable enough to know where to go at what time to see specific animals. Our safari was beyond our expectations thanks to them and i highly recommend them if you want to make the most of your safari!

Amazing trip
5/5

Went on a one day safari to Tsvaro East yesterday with Steve and his fabulous driver/guide. I had messaged Steve before our arrival to get some more information and prices etc, he always replied promptly and was very helpful. When we arrived in Kenya I messaged him again looking to book the trip. Steve came to our hotel for a chat and to go through the different options so we could book in.
On the day of the tour he arrived on time at half 4 to enable us to really make the most of the day. The drive went smoothly, we stopped for breakfast (provided by the hotel) and a restroom break before entering the national park.
Water was provided during the safari and a box lunch for later on. Steve was very knowledgeable, answering all our questions and stopping as and when we wanted (benefit of a private tour)
We were so lucky to see lots of animals - giraffe, elephants, zebras, hippo, zebra, lions plus many more. We could get so close to them but still felt really safe.
It was a long 3.5 hour drive back to Dinai beach but totally worth it. If you are looking for a tour I can 100% recommend as the service was brilliant plus they are cheaper than the holiday/hotel reps with the same insurance and support.

Great private family safari experience
5/5

We joined a 4-day Tsavo East and Tsavo West safari with Steve and Richard Safaris in early January, and overall it turned out to be a very enjoyable and memorable experience.

We compared offers from several safari operators, and Steve and Richard Safaris clearly had the most competitive price. As we were traveling as a family of six, a private safari was important to us, and this was arranged smoothly.

Communication before the trip with Steve, the company owner, was mostly detailed and helpful. That said, there were a few moments of confusion, as we received multiple emails with very similar wording, which at times felt slightly impersonal. The fact that the email address used did not fully match the one listed on the website also caused some hesitation, especially since the USD 500 advance payment was quite substantial.

Despite these concerns, we decided to move forward — and we are glad we did. All payments were handled properly, and we paid the remaining balance in cash when we met Steve at our hotel a couple of days before departure. Everything that had been agreed upon was delivered exactly as promised.

Our safari vehicle was a spacious 10-seater Land Cruiser, very comfortable and perfect for game drives. Our driver and guide, Trevor, was outstanding. His knowledge of wildlife and local roads was excellent, and he was consistently polite, attentive, and proactive. Throughout the trip, we felt safe and well looked after.

There was a small cultural difference regarding tipping at the end of the safari, as in our culture it is not common to tip drivers outside of specific service roles. However, this was a minor moment and did not affect the overall quality of the experience.

The mid-range lodges were simple but clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed good food throughout the safari. Ngulia Lodge stood out for its incredible location and wildlife activity. From our room and the restaurant terrace, we saw elephants, buffaloes, a leopard, and even a lion stalking nearby prey. We also witnessed some very lively baboon behavior — including one stealing our towel from the balcony (entirely our own mistake!).

Due to a logistical change, our final night was spent at Taita Hills Lodge instead of Salt Lick, and this turned out to be a wonderful surprise. It was one of the most impressive places we stayed in Kenya — truly a peaceful and beautiful retreat, just as Trevor had described.

Overall, Steve and Richard Safaris proved to be a trustworthy and well-organized company, with reliable vehicles and dedicated staff. While there were minor communication quirks beforehand, the safari itself was excellently run, and we would happily recommend them — particularly to families looking for a private safari experience.

Very authentic and heartfelt experience.
5/5

We had a great tour! 3 days, 2 nights - first night in Tsavo East, then in Tsavo West. Highly recommend doing both. We saw dozens of Elephants, packs of Lions including cubs, Giraffes, Buffalos, 10+ kind of Antilopes, 50+ different bird species, Warthogs, Leopards, Baboons, and almost all other animals that inhabit the park. Accommodation was functional rather than luxury, for us totally fine, most importantly:amazing views over the parks and the animals came very close to the lodges. Big buffets with plenty of food options. Our driver Hassan was really amazing and heartfull. The whole journey and the organization by Steve was a very authentic and deeply touching experience! Highly recommended.

Steve & driver Solomon masterfully planned & executing extraordinary/affordable safaris‼️
5/5

To the incredible team at Steven & Richard Safaris,

I am writing to express our profound gratitude for orchestrating what can only be described as the journey of a lifetime. Our initial contact with Steven & Richard Safaris began last June, after discovering your outstanding reputation on Tripadvisor. From that moment, the WhatsApp conversations with Steve commenced, meticulously building our itinerary for a late January start.

The planning phase itself was a testament to Steve's exceptional dedication and expertise. Coordinating three travelers arriving from diverse international locations and departing at different times presented a complex logistical puzzle. Yet, Steve navigated every request and desire with remarkable agility, ensuring every detail was perfectly aligned. Despite the significant time difference between Seattle and Mombasa, Steve graciously accommodated numerous late-night calls, tirelessly addressing our questions and fine-tuning our preferences. His commitment laid the groundwork for an absolutely seamless experience.

Upon arrival, every aspect of our safari exceeded our wildest expectations. The anticipation of encountering Africa's iconic wildlife was immense, but the reality was far more breathtaking. We were thrilled not only to witness the majestic Big Five but also an incredible array of other species, including several magnificent felines like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even the elusive civet cat, a true rarity! Each sighting was a profound moment of connection with nature.

One of the most unforgettable moments occurred on our final safari, where we were privileged to observe a family of four white rhinos – a formidable papa, a gentle mama, a tiny, months-old baby, and a curious juvenile. We were positioned so intimately close to them that our zoom lenses were rendered unnecessary, allowing for an incredibly personal and humbling encounter. This experience was made even more astounding by the fact that just the night before, we had a similarly close and powerful encounter with a pair of black rhinos right next to our vehicle. These moments of being so profoundly immersed in their world will forever be etched in our minds.

Our driver and guide, Solomon, was nothing short of extraordinary. His unwavering passion, encyclopedic knowledge, and relentless dedication to ensuring we experienced the very best of the wilderness shone through every single day. Solomon worked tirelessly, tracking subtle signs, interpreting animal behaviors, and masterfully maneuvering our vehicle to grant us unparalleled photographic opportunities and breathtaking views of the vast array of wildlife. He truly possessed a sixth sense for locating the animals, transforming each drive into a magical adventure. There were countless times we found ourselves pinching ourselves, utterly mesmerized, convinced we were dreaming, such was the closeness and intimacy of our encounters. He didn't just drive us; he guided us into the very heart of the wild.

The memories forged on this incredible journey will undeniably stay with us for a lifetime. We are eternally grateful to Steve for his meticulous orchestration of our dream itinerary and to Solomon for his exceptional skill and passion in "making it all happen" so magnificently. Thank you, from the deepest corners of our hearts, for an unparalleled adventure.
