Best Honeymoon/Vacation of My Life
5/5

My wife and I scheduled our honeymoon through Discover Africa just by finding them through a simple Google search. A client of theirs called us right away and then over the next several weeks helped us figure out what package of travel we wanted. We ended up going on a safari in Tanzania for 10 days while the wildebeest were migrating and then 5 days on Zanzibar to relax. We scheduled all of this in 2019, and when the pandemic hit Discover Africa was kind enough to allow us to simply reschedule to 2021. Once we finally did get to go on our safari we were with a guide almost the entire first 5 days of the trip, which was AWESOME. A guide was there to immediately meet us after getting of the final airplane's stairs to walk us through the Tanzania customs and Covid protocols. A guide was then there to drive us to the first hotel and was super informative and great to talk to after a long plane ride. We then met with our actual safari tour guide that night to walk us through what would be happening starting the next morning since we were getting up early to check out OH, and The African Tulip hotel was amazing and they treated us to a surprise, private honeymoon dinner by the pool as with our own little fire pit.
The next morning we went to Lake Manyara with our guide and were blown away right away with all the animals we saw. 5- 10 minutes in we saw a group of giraffes followed up almost immediately by 2 elephants crossing the road only a car's length behind us. Absolutely surreal. The rest of the day was full of different types of gazelle, babboon, huge baobab trees, water buffalo, dik-diks, and others I'm forgetting. We saw several elephants very close to the car which was awesome. We ate a prepared lunch for us on the top of the overlook of the Lake. Nothing fantastic about the food but they were all designed to be "safe" food choices for everyone's diet and sensitivities. The safari took up the entire day and we were exhausted and happy as the tour guide took us to our next hotel where we had our own little condominum room. This next place as well put flowers on the bed and treated us special for our honeymoon.
The next morning we had the same tour guide (who had 17 years experience by the way) and went to Ngorongoro Conservation. He drove us up the jungly, misty, crater outer mountain and stopped to look over the massive bowl. Then we descended into the crater and immediately saw zebra, tons of wildebeest, and a RHINO (from a distance). Again a day full of tons of HERDS of gazelle, ostrich, zebra, wildebeest and LIONS laying on the very side of the road, without a care in the world about us getting up close. We ate lunch by this body of water and even it had a herd of hippos popping their heads up out of the water looking at us eat our sandwiches! Again another exhausting, exciting day with elephants as well. Our tour guide took us back to the same hotel that night.
The next morning our tour guide took us to the airport and walked us through the little bit of security that they had to get on a small plane to head to the Serengeti. The plane was small but never felt unsafe. Once we arrived in the Serengeti we were given some tea and were immediately whisked off onto our next safari. There were a heard of hippos basically AT THE AIRPORT. Then we drove off and had lunch with a group of 20+ elephants and baby elephants drinking in the Mara river. Then we were abruptly told to hold onto our lunches to go see the RIVER CROSSING of wildebeest going nuts on the Mara and dodging crocodiles. The day was full of eagles, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, a duo of MALE LIONS, and much more. The night was at a beautiful, huge tent with our own tent with a shower and double vanity mirror and huge bed. We fell asleep to the sound of wildebeest "moos" and hyena yelps.
The next morning we woke up at 4AM for a morning HOT AIR BALLOON ride. It was around $300 a person but so worth it. The safari car ride can be very bumpy so it was nice to see the Serengeti from a higher vantage point with a smooth voyage. We got the balloon up just as high basically to be above the trees and look down on the herds of animals from above. We also got maybe 15 feet from the center of the Mara river as we hovered directly down the center of it. We even got to see a LEOPARD from above! We landed smoothly and had mimosas to celebrate and were taken off to a hot breakfast in a place surrounded by trees. We got to meet other people safariing from all over the world and the staff everywhere was always so nice.
We then went off to Zanzibar for the last 5 days which was such a different pace than constantly safariing that it was a little hard to pump the adrenaline. The beach was nice but hard to relax with a pretty steady flow of people trying to sell you things or get you to go on excursions with them. We did go diving with DOLPHINS which was probably $120 and was absolutely worth it. We also went scuba diving briefly. Zanzibar was mostly for relaxing, which we definitely did, but looking back on it we wished we had spent more time safarring and maybe only two days on the beach.
All in all, everything with Discover Africa was fantastic. We would highly recommend to anyone willing to travel there.

5/5

How lucky we were to get Adelle Bell as our tour operator. We told her what we were looking for and she put together an amazing Kruger Safari for us. It was well organized and we had no problem with any arrangements , transfers, etc. All the lodges she chose for us, were excellent. She really was excellent in answering questions, even changing travel arrangements when we needed to fly from Nelspruit to Cape Town and then back to Jhb. She was excellent! Thank you Adelle for making our trip so memorable !!

Antoinette was a competent, experienced, and well informed tour operator
5/5

Antoinette was extremely prompt with responses to questions and most anxious to provide options for all of our requests for tours. She communicated using telephone, email, text and What’s App, whatever was required to assure we had answers as promptly as possible. When we had to make last minute changes to tours because of flight delays, she was immediately on top of it, allowing us to see everything we originally scheduled, despite loss of a full day in Cape Town.

The guide service provided was exceptional. We had private tours for all events, allowing flexibility in timing and stops when we wanted. The Cape of Good Hope tour, the penguin colonies and Table Top Mountain gondola ride were amazing because of the knowledge of our guide.

Our Botswana Safari and Victoria Falls Elephant camps were of excellent quality with diversity between Okavango Delta and Moremi camps that allowed extraordinary wildlife sightings. The elephant encounter at Victoria Falls and our helicopter and guided tour of the falls allowed us to really see its full magnitude.

There are so many wonderful things to say about Antoinette and Discover Africa.

A trip for enjoyment and experiencing Africa
5/5

Since the beginning, agents and staff of Discover Africa already work in a professional way for me to plan the trip. Their quick responses to my questions help us a lot before departing from our place to the Africa continent. When we were in our trip, we can feel that everything is well arranged. All the guides for safari drives and staffs in lodges are doing their excellent jobs for us and we think the trip is really unforgettable. We can see some 'world-class' attractions during the trip, many amazing wild animals in the safaris and then we can enjoy and relax in the lodges. All these are beyond our expectations. Thank you very much.

Prompt, professional and excellent service
5/5

We, six seniors, took a 14 day sightseeing tour to Cape Tour and Johannesburg, safari trip to Krugar park and Chobe in Botswana as well as tour to Victoria Fall in Zimbabwe in Oct. 2019 organized by Discovery Africa. Both, Megan Warrington and Alice Lombard, our travel consultants, planned a well though out detail itinerary covering all aspect of our tour with care and understanding our requirements. They were very professional in their response (both over the phone or via email) as well as were every willing and prompt in dealing with our concerns/requests.

The tour exceeded our expectation and had a wonderful experience both for sightseeing part as well as the Safari trip. The subcontractors for transportation, sight seeing tours as well as the safari expedition provided an excellent service and found to be very knowledgeable. The Safari experience was much beyond our expectation were able to see all five big games at a close distance.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will not hesitate to refer anyone to Discovery Africa as a tour planner and South Africa as a prefer destination for Safari experience.

Excellent coordination and prompt service
5/5

We were six of together, and one was our contact person but we were all in the loop of each communication. I observed that Megan and Alice were excellent in prompt communication, and provided us all the necessary information. Our safari experience was beyond our expectations.
Excellent job.

Brilliant Tanzanian Safari
5/5

The Tanzanian safari itinerary set up by Discover Africa was everything we could have hoped for, and more.

The lodges (Maramboi, Pakulala, and Nasikia) all came with excellent hospitality, accommodations, and food.

Special accolades to our two guides - Ebebezer and Henri. Both gentlemen made for perfect hosts. Any visitor would be lucky to have either one as their host in Tanzania.

Oh, and we can’t forget to mention the incredible things we saw while on safari!

Matthys designed a perfect safari for my family which ensured we had the trip of a lifetime!
5/5

The itinerary options developed and information provided by Matthys allowed us to design a fantastic first time safari for my family. Every detail was considered and we were very well taken care of by the Desert and Delta staff in each lodge. The range of game viewing options was varied enough to keep our kids engaged the whole time. The staff at the lodges were personable and warm, making us feel like we were their only guests. We would definitely go back and use Discover Africa and Desert and Delta again.

Excellently planned custom trip that included Kilimanjaro, safaris and beach time
5/5

Megan did a great job working with me to customize the exact trip that I envisioned. She made recommendations about things that I did not know about and helped me to assure I got the right mix of rugged to luxury. I was met by excellent guides and drivers that spoke English well and made me feel safe throughout the trip. The transports were arranged from the time I got off the flight to Africa and until I got back on the plane. All legs of the trip were covered and went seamlessly. The guide for Kilimanjaro had been trained by the African National Parks and knew about the animals, the climbing routes and health issues that can occur. He was a wealth of great information and a very competent guide. The driver / guide for my safaris also was trained by the National park system and spoke English. There was never a time where the drivers or transports were not on time or made me feel like I was not safe and well cared for. The lodges and tent camps were a mix of luxury to rugged and I enjoyed the mix. Megan smartly booked a second night at a lodge before all my adventures began as I was scheduled to arrive late in the evening. Flying to Africa is quite the ordeal so having critical rest time upon arrival is really important to making sure you are prepared for the rest of the adventure. One thing I wish I had done was book an overnight in Amsterdam on my way over and on my way back. Having 3 flights and 2 of them 8 hour flights that are back to back, having a night to rest in Amsterdam would have been wise for me. I would highly recommend Discover Africa. They are well known and respected in Africa. My luggage was lost on the way to Africa and Discover Africa, while not responsible for this error on the airlines fault, did help me to locate my bag and get it to me before my Kilimanjaro climbing began. Unforgettable trip!

Trip of a Lifetime
5/5

Our travel agent was Tanya Ellis from Discover Africa. She put together the perfect safari package for our anniversary trip. Luxurious accommodations, airfare, shuttles -- everything we needed. No worries, just a wonderful wonderful trip.

The highlight was an amazing stay at The River Lodge in Thornybush. Top notch service, great food, incredible game drives, and a beautiful romantic setting. If you can stay there -- do it!
