Reliable, experienced, flexible, caring, fun — the safari felt like traveling with friends
We had an amazing 6-day safari and honeymoon experience with Rafiki Tembo Tours and Safaris, from airport pickup until they sent us back to the airport at the end of the trip.
Communication before the trip was excellent. They replied very quickly, even though we requested many changes and adjustments multiple times. They were always patient, flexible with the schedule we wanted, and helped customize the trip exactly the way we hoped.
Since we traveled during the low season, we honestly did not expect to see many animals. However, we managed to see almost everything except a leopard, which we understand is very difficult to spot. We were really impressed by how experienced our guide was and by the strong connections between the guides, which helped us spot so many animals throughout the trip.
Before starting the safari, we requested to visit an African batik shop. At first, we could not find the pattern we wanted, but thanks to their local connections, we were finally able to order a custom-made African batik outfit, which became a very special memory for us.
In Tarangire, although we did not see big cats, we had an unforgettable experience seeing a group of elephants with babies from very close distance, thanks to our guide. Then during our two days in Serengeti, we saw big cats with their cubs and many other animals we hoped to see — sometimes even while eating lunch.
Some of the best moments of our trip were when a cheetah jumped onto our vehicle, seeing the famous three cheetah brothers eating a wildebeest, and spotting a rhino from very close distance. These were truly unforgettable experiences for us and would not have been possible without such an experienced guide and the guide network they work with.
What we especially appreciated was how well the safari was balanced between game drives and relaxing honeymoon time at the lodges. In Ngorongoro, the pace was more relaxed and enjoyable, which we really liked.
Our guide was one of the best parts of the trip. He was knowledgeable, experienced, fun, and felt more like traveling with a friend than with a tour guide. He knew when to relax and when to rush for animal sightings. He even taught me how to take better videos of the animals during the safari. At the same time, he always considered safety first, which made us feel comfortable throughout the trip.
His driving skills were also incredible — we even had to drive through flooding roads during heavy rain, and we could hardly believe we made it through safely. We could clearly feel that he truly cares about wildlife and genuinely loves animals.
Finally, we also found the price very reasonable. We compared the exact same itinerary with several other tour companies, and all of them were more expensive.
We are very happy we chose Rafiki Tembo Tours and Safaris for our honeymoon safari and would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Tanzania.

Fantastic from start to finish!
We found it hard to decide which company to trust when organising our holiday but decided in the end to go with Rafiki tembo as they gave us honest advice on what tour would be best for us. It was amazing, Geoffrey and Jonathan made the whole experience unforgettable, everything was explained with so much knowledge and answered every question we had. I’d recommend Rafiki tembo and Geoffrey and Jonathan to anybody visiting Tanzania!

Fantastic!
We booked a 10 day private safari from Nairobi through to Arusha with Rafiki Tembo Tours & Safaris and it was fantastic. Everything was well organised, with all the guides/drivers booked, accommodation and park entries all sorted ahead of time. Lowassa was extremely helpful in the lead up to our safari and checked in with us during the safari to see how things were going. We were collected at the airport in Nairobi by George (our Kenyan guide/driver) and taken to our privately booked accommodation, where we spent 2 nights recovering from our flights before starting our safari. Our guides/drivers(George in Kenya and Simba in Tanzania) were knowledgeable and did their utmost to ensure we saw as much as possible. Both George and Simba seemed to know just where to find certain animals.
It was a fantastic experience and we feel very privileged to be able to see these magnificent animals in their natural surrounds. It did make us think though about how tourism and the number of people visiting these areas might impact the animals. We got so close to some of them, that sometimes it seemed as if the animals might have been thinking 'oh it's those humans again, can I go now?', especially when there were 10 or 20 or more cars all around them.
We enjoyed the Tanzania side of our safari a little more, for us it just seemed a little more relaxed.
Tracks in and between the parks are pretty rough, so be prepared to be bounced around and to have everything with a coating of dust, despite best efforts otherwise.
Overall, a fantastic experience that we will treasure.

Our experience with Rafiki Tembo tours & Safari along with Lowassa and his team was by far the most positive, excellent, easy, and memorable travel experience we have ever had.
Lowassa was very easy and accommodating and patient to work with. He responded quickly and with professionalism, expertise, and answered all questions, addressed all concerns and took us through. The step-by-step process is needed to ensure that our Safari was 100% what we wanted.
We started in Kenya and visited Lake Nakuru and the Masi Mara. We crossed over into Tanzania and explored the Northern and Central Serengeti before heading to Ngorongoro Crater and flew from Arusha to Zanzibar to visit spice farms, took a Blue Safari to mangroves, sandbar in the middle of the Indian Ocean and snorkelled with amazing variety of fish and many different starfish we have never seen before. We also enjoyed a seafood BBQ and local beer before heading back.
The accommodations were spectacular: they were beautiful and up-to-date, comfortable and had something for everyone. The staff everywhere we went were so friendly and welcoming and demonstrated top quality customer service and care.
Our tour guides, George in Kenya and Deo in Tanzania were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, patient, they engaged with my children and always took the time to teach us about each country, the flora and fauna we were living among, and made the trip perfect.
I would HIGHLY recommend Lowassa and Rafiki Tembo Tours! We hope to return in the future - we did NOT want to leave.
