uMkhuze Game Reserve lies on the eastern coastal belt of KwaZulu-Natal, 20km/12mi inland of the Indian Ocean, where it forms part of the immense iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Primarily a destination, it is located about 310km/193mi (4 to 4½ hours*) northeast of the city of Durban. Roads to uMkhuze are tarred except for the last 25km/16mi, and the reserve can be visited in any vehicle.
The closest airport is King Shaka International Airport (DUR), 30km/19mi north of Durban. Regular domestic flights connect King Shaka to Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT), the main entry points to South Africa. Car rental is available at all airports.
