Bale Mountains National Park experiences a mild, wet climate. The Dry season runs from November to March and the Wet season from April to October.
Due to the proximity to the equator, temperatures in Bale Mountains NP are very uniform throughout the year. There is, however, a big gap between daytime and nighttime temperatures. Days average at 18°C/64°F and nights at 5°C/41°F.
Dry Season November to March
Days are typically sunny and it rarely rains. This is a great time for hikes and drives.
- November & December – This is the beginning of the Dry season. Rain rarely interferes with planned activities. The scenery is lush after the rains.
- January & February – The bush starts to get dry and wildlife viewing gets easier in the forest.
- March – The scenery can be a bit drab at the end of the Dry season. Regular rain towards the end of the month settles the dust.
Wet Season April to October
Rain can be expected throughout the Wet season, although there is a gap with less rainfall in June. Waterproof clothing is essential.
- April & May – These are the ‘short rains’. It rains regularly.
- June – Rainfall diminishes for a short spell. But the exact timing is unpredictable.
- July, August, September & October – These months see the ‘long rains’. Everything is lush and green, but rain can interfere with activities.
