Your adventure begins with an early morning hotel pickup in Dar es Salaam for a transfer to the city's modern SGR train terminal. The train journey to Morogoro is a scenic and comfortable experience, offering views of rural Tanzanian life and the lush landscape. Upon arrival in Morogoro, your dedicated safari guide will meet you and drive you to Mikumi National Park. After checking into your lodge and enjoying a warm lunch, you will set off on your first game drive. The focus will be on exploring the Mkata Floodplain, known for its high concentration of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and large herds of elephants. As the sun begins to set, you'll return to your lodge for dinner and a restful overnight stay amidst the sounds of the wilderness.

Day 2
Full-day Mikumi game drive

After an early breakfast, you'll depart for a full day of game driving inside Mikumi National Park. With more time to explore, your guide will take you to different areas of the park, increasing your chances of spotting predators like lions and leopards. The full-day drive also provides opportunities to visit the hippo pools, where you can watch these large mammals and crocodiles from a safe distance. A picnic lunch will be served at a designated site, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The evening concludes with another dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 3
Mikumi to Udzungwa Mountains National Park

After breakfast, you'll drive approximately 90 kilometers to the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, leaving the safari plains behind. This park is famous for its trekking opportunities and high biodiversity. Your guided hike will take you through lush rainforest to the stunning Sanje Waterfalls, a multi-tiered cascade where you can swim in the pools below. Keep an eye out for endemic primates like the Sanje crested mangabey and the Iringa red colobus monkey.

Guided forest hike: Spot endemic primates, such as the Sanje crested mangabey and the Iringa red colobus monkey, which are found nowhere else in the world

Day 4

After a final breakfast, you will venture to a nearby Maasai village, where you will be warmly welcomed by the local community with their vibrant traditional songs and dances. Your Maasai hosts will guide you through their homestead, known as a boma, offering a glimpse into their pastoral traditions and unique way of life. You'll have the opportunity to learn about their history, the symbolism behind their intricate beadwork, and witness demonstrations of fire-making techniques.
This immersive experience allows for a meaningful cultural exchange and a chance to support the community directly. After bidding farewell to your hosts, you will begin your drive to the Morogoro SGR station, where you will board the comfortable train for a relaxing ride back to Dar es Salaam, carrying with you memories of both the incredible wildlife and the unforgettable cultural encounters of your Southern Circuit adventure.
