Old Moses to Shipton

Hike uphill after breakfast, crossing the Ontulili and Liki North Rivers, contouring through the moorland. The trail leads to Mackinder's Valley, offering panoramic views toward the peaks. Continue to Shipton Camp (4200m), a spectacular base below the towering peaks and glaciers. At this high altitude, the air is thin, and the setting is surreal, surrounded by unusual alpine flora. It's a key rest point, home to rock hyrax and sunbirds, though accommodations are simple with cold showers.

Ascend Mt. Kenya to Point Lenana (4985M) at 3:00 AM for a spectacular African sunrise. The 3-4 hour climb over rocky scree offers unparalleled views of a pollution-free sky bursting with stars, and on a clear day, a glimpse of Mt. Kilimanjaro on the horizon.

Descend to Minto's Hut for breakfast, then continue through the stunning Gorges Valley to Mt. Kenya Bandas. Enjoy views of The Temple, Lake Michaelson, and Giant Billiards Table. End the day with a log fire, hot shower, and a comfortable bed at the Bandas. Stay at Anabas Mount Kenya Lodge to best enjoy this leg of the adventure.
