Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Kampala or directly from Entebbe International Airport by your professional safari guide. You’ll set off on a scenic drive westward towards Kibale Forest National Park, a journey of approximately 5-6 hours, passing through beautiful landscapes of tea plantations, rolling hills, and traditional villages. A lunch stop is scheduled in the town of Fort Portal, nestled at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains. Upon arrival at your midrange lodge near the forest, you’ll check in and spend the evening relaxing and preparing for the next day’s chimpanzee encounter. Dinner and overnight stay will be at your lodge near Kibale.

Day 2

After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the Kibale Forest Park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your exciting chimpanzee trekking experience. Led by experienced rangers, you’ll venture into the rainforest in search of habituated chimpanzees. Along the way, you may also spot other primates like red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you’ll spend an unforgettable hour observing their behaviors up close. After lunch, you’ll embark on a guided nature walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run eco-tourism project rich in biodiversity. The walk offers excellent birding opportunities and a chance to see more primates in their natural habitat. You’ll return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

Following breakfast, you'll depart Kibale and drive south to Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most diverse and scenic wildlife reserves. The drive, which takes about 3-4 hours, offers stunning views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the crater lakes region. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your midrange accommodation and enjoy lunch. In the late afternoon, you’ll head out on your first game drive in the northern Kasenyi plains. Look out for elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, warthogs, and possibly lions and leopards. As the sun sets over the savannah, you’ll return to the lodge for a relaxing evening and overnight.

Day 4

After an early breakfast, you’ll head back into the park for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi sector, a popular area for spotting lions hunting Uganda kobs. This is prime time for wildlife activity, so be on the lookout for elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, and numerous antelope species. You’ll return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. This two-hour excursion offers a close encounter with hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and a vast array of waterbirds along the shoreline. After the cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Today, you'll check out after breakfast and drive to the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for its population of tree-climbing lions. You’ll embark on a game drive through this remote and less-visited area, keeping your eyes on the fig trees for lounging lions and scanning the savannah for herds of topis, buffaloes, and elephants. After the game drive and a picnic lunch, you’ll continue your journey through the scenic highlands to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Arrive in the late afternoon or evening and check in at your comfortable midrange lodge nestled in the forested hills. Enjoy dinner and a restful night in anticipation of tomorrow's trek.

After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette and guidelines. Groups are then assigned based on fitness levels and allocated to one of the habituated gorilla families. Led by experienced rangers and trackers, you’ll hike through dense forest and steep terrain in search of the gentle giants. Trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, you’ll spend an awe-inspiring hour observing the gorillas interact, feed, and care for one another – an unforgettable wildlife experience. After your trek, you’ll return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest. Optional community or cultural visits may be arranged in the evening. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

After breakfast, you’ll begin the journey to Lake Mburo National Park, a smaller but richly biodiverse park situated in Uganda’s western region. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours with a lunch stop en route. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at your midrange lodge or tented camp and head out on an evening game drive. Lake Mburo is home to species not commonly seen in other Ugandan parks, such as zebras, elands, impalas, and oribi. You may also encounter giraffes, buffaloes, and hippos near the lake. Enjoy sundowners as the African savannah lights up with golden hues before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Begin your final day with a morning nature walking safari, accompanied by a knowledgeable ranger guide. Lake Mburo is one of the few parks in Uganda where walking safaris are allowed, offering a unique opportunity to observe wildlife on foot and learn about the flora and animal tracking techniques. After the walk, you’ll enjoy breakfast and then check out for your drive back to Kampala or Entebbe, a journey of about 4-5 hours. A lunch stop is included along the way. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel in Kampala or at Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your unforgettable 8-day Uganda midrange adventure safari.
