Your safari begins with an early morning pick-up in Nairobi for a scenic drive north to Laikipia, passing tea and coffee farms and crossing the equator. Arrive around midday at Ol Pejeta Conservancy and check in at Sweetwaters Serena Camp, a tranquil tented camp, located inside the conservancy. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive inside Ol Pejeta, a leading private reserve known for rhino conservation and Big Five sightings. Explore open plains and woodland in search of elephants, lions, buffalos, and giraffes, and visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary—the only one of its kind in Kenya. Olpejeta to Samburu National Reserve

After an early breakfast, you'll check out and drive further north toward the dramatic and rugged landscapes of Samburu National Reserve. The journey takes about 4–5 hours, with scenic views of Mount Kenya and semi-arid terrain as you approach the Ewaso Nyiro River. Arrive in time for lunch and check-in at Ashnil Samburu Camp, a luxurious tented camp set on the banks of the river, offering spectacular views and easy access to wildlife. After settling in, you’ll head out for a late afternoon game drive, where you’ll begin to experience Samburu’s unique ecosystem. Unlike other parks, Samburu is known for the “Samburu Special Five” — rare species found only in the north: the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. The park also has a healthy population of elephants, and predators such as leopards, lions, and cheetahs are often seen along the riverbanks. Return to camp for dinner and a night under canvas in the heart of Samburu’s wilderness.

Day 3

Exploring Samburu National Reserve

Exploring Samburu National Reserve

Rise early for a sunrise game drive, when animals are most active and the lighting is perfect for photography. This early outing increases your chances of spotting elusive predators on the hunt, herds of elephants crossing the river, and a variety of birdlife. After a hearty breakfast back at camp, you may choose to relax during the hot midday hours — perhaps take a dip in the pool or enjoy the riverside views from your tent. In the late afternoon, you’ll head out again for a second game drive, exploring new areas of the reserve and searching for more wildlife, guided by your expert driver-guide who know the terrain intimately. Samburu’s contrasting landscapes — from dry bush to riverine forest — offer rich opportunities to spot both iconic and unusual species. Return to camp for a delicious dinner and a peaceful final night under the Samburu stars.
