Etosha National Park
Today’s journey takes you north from Okonjima to the southern reaches of Etosha National Park. Pass through the towns of Otjiwarongo and Outjo — both perfect for a short break or a bite to eat. Just beyond Outjo, Etosha Corner is a favourite stop for travellers, offering delicious lunches and one of the best-stocked curio shops in Namibia.
Arriving in Etosha South, you’ll find yourself on the edge of one of Africa’s great wildlife havens. This region, made up of private reserves bordering the park, provides easy access through Andersson’s Gate. Here, vast plains are home to lion, giraffe, elephant, rhino and countless antelope species. Grootberg
Grootberg
Today, you’ll leave Etosha Oberland Lodge and travel west, then south, towards the striking landscapes of the Grootberg area. The drive takes you through Damaraland’s ever-changing scenery — from open plains to rugged hills — with glimpses of rural life in remote villages along the way.
The Grootberg Plateau rises dramatically from the desert floor, its canyons, rock formations, and sweeping views creating some of Namibia’s most memorable scenery. As you wind through Grootberg Pass, keep an eye out for the Himba people tending livestock, and perhaps stop to admire or purchase their handmade jewellery, supporting local communities. Despite the tough terrain, this region teems with life: black rhino, giraffe, and desert-adapted elephant all roam these arid expanses.
Later, take a 4x4 drive across the plateau to a spectacular viewpoint and watch the sun dip below the horizon — a truly unforgettable end to the day.

Twyfelfontein
Twyfelfontein
Today, you’ll leave the Grootberg Plateau and continue deeper into the wild beauty of Damaraland. The route winds through rocky hills and ancient valleys, where you may spot desert-adapted elephants moving quietly along the dry riverbeds.
Your destination is Twyfelfontein, a strikingly scenic area in the Kunene Region, home to one of Africa’s most significant collections of rock art. Its name, meaning “Fountain of Doubt,” comes from the natural spring that has sustained life here for thousands of years. Drawn by this water source, Stone Age hunters once inhabited the valley, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of engravings and paintings etched into the sandstone cliffs — a fascinating glimpse into Namibia’s deep and ancient past.

Day 9-10
Swakopmund
Swakopmund
Today’s journey takes you south, passing the towering Brandberg Mountain — Namibia’s highest peak — before continuing along the coast at Henties Bay. If time permits, make a worthwhile detour to Cape Cross to see the bustling seal colony and enjoy the dramatic Atlantic scenery. The drive typically takes around four and a half hours, not including stops or detours.
Your destination is Swakopmund, a charming seaside town where desert dunes meet the ocean. With its palm-lined streets, colonial-era architecture and cool sea breeze, it’s a place that feels both distinctly African and delightfully European. Founded in 1892 as the harbour for German South-West Africa, Swakopmund now serves as the gateway to the Skeleton Coast and one of Namibia’s most popular coastal retreats. Spend your time exploring the town’s cafés and curio shops or venture out for a dose of adventure — from quad biking and sandboarding to scenic flights, desert tours, horse riding and even paragliding over the dunes.

Day 11-12
Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei
Today’s journey takes you south from Swakopmund towards the Sesriem area, gateway to the great dunes of Sossusvlei. The drive is long but wonderfully scenic, with shifting desert landscapes and wide, open skies. Along the way, stop at Solitaire — a small but iconic outpost offering fuel, a café, a shop, and a slice of what many claim is the best apple pie in the Southern Hemisphere.
For safety, it’s best to avoid stopping to climb dunes along the Swakopmund–Walvis Bay road, as car break-ins have been reported in this area. Likewise, only visit the lagoon at Walvis Bay as part of an organised tour, and if you need to park, use the yacht club and keep your car free of valuables. The Bird Sanctuary is also best skipped, due to soft sand and the risk of getting stuck.
