Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Discover the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations. Created by a massive volcanic eruption millions of years ago, this collapsed caldera is the world’s largest unbroken volcanic crater, measuring about 20 kilometers in diameter. Today, it serves as a natural sanctuary supporting over 25,000 animals, including the Big Five — lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and the rare black rhino — making it one of the most concentrated wildlife habitats on the continent.

As you descend onto the crater floor, you’ll be captivated by its varied landscapes: open grassy plains teeming with grazing herbivores, scattered acacia forests, tranquil swamps, and the shimmering Lake Magadi, often dotted with flocks of flamingos. The diverse habitats attract predators, herbivores, and an incredible variety of birds, providing some of the best year-round wildlife viewing in Tanzania.
