Day 2

Ndutu area witness calving season in ndutu area

Ndutu area witness calving season in ndutu area

The wildebeest calving season takes place in the southern Serengeti, usually between late January and March, when around half a million calves are born within just a few weeks. This period marks a dramatic and vital phase of the Great Migration. The lush green plains, nourished by seasonal rains, provide abundant fresh grass and water—ideal conditions for the mothers and their newborns. The sheer number of births helps overwhelm predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, giving many calves a better chance of survival. It’s a breathtaking spectacle of life and survival on the African savannah, as the plains come alive with new energy before the herds move northward again in their endless cycle of migration.
