The Eighth Wonder - Ngorongoro Crater
Today is dedicated to one of the most spectacular wildlife sanctuaries on earth: the Ngorongoro Crater. You'll start very early, descending the steep crater rim into the 600-meter-deep caldera. The crater is a natural enclosure, home to an incredibly dense population of animals, creating unparalleled game viewing.
Often called "Africa's Eden," the crater offers an almost guaranteed chance to see the Big Five:
Black Rhino: One of the best places in Tanzania to see these endangered creatures.
Lion: Proud prides, often with magnificent black-maned males.
Elephant: Large tuskers are common here.
Buffalo: Massive herds.
Leopard: More elusive, but present.
You'll also see vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, spotted hyenas, serval cats, and thousands of flamingos on the crater's soda lake. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the hippo pool picnic site before your afternoon ascent back to the crater rim. You return to the comfort of Marera Valley Lodge for a well-deserved rest.

On the Trail of the Migration - To Southern Serengeti (Ndutu)
After breakfast, you begin your journey to the legendary Serengeti. You'll drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with stunning views from the crater rim, and then enter the Southern Serengeti plains, specifically the Ndutu region.
This area is the stage for the Great Migration from approximately December to March. During this period, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra gather here to graze on the rich, short grasses and give birth to their young. The plains are teeming with life and action, with predators never far away.
Your game drive en route to camp will be thrilling. You'll arrive at Ndutu Kati Kati, a classic mobile tented camp that offers an authentic bush experience. Falling asleep to the sounds of the African night is an unforgettable experience.

The Drama of Ndutu - Full Game Exploration
This is a full day to immerse yourself in the unique ecosystem of Ndutu. Because it's part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (not the National Park), your guide is allowed to go off-road. This is a significant advantage, allowing you to get incredibly close to wildlife and follow the action.
Today's focus is on:
The Great Migration: Witness the sheer scale of the herds.
Calving Season: If your trip is between January and February, you have a high chance of seeing wildebeest giving birth.
Predator Action: Cheetahs, lions, and hyenas are abundant, taking advantage of the vulnerable newborn calves.
Lake Ndutu & Lake Masek: Explore these seasonal soda lakes, which attract a variety of animals and birds.
You'll enjoy a packed lunch out in the bush, maximizing your time in this wildlife-rich area before returning to your tented camp for another magical evening.

The drive itself is a game drive, and you are likely to see wildlife all along the way. The Central Serengeti is the heart of the park and is known for its year-round excellent game viewing due to the permanent water sources from the Seronera River.
