Day 1

Mombasa to Tsavo East

Mombasa to Tsavo East

Your safari begins early with a hotel pick-up as you head toward Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s largest and most iconic wildlife destinations. Passing through the park gates, the scenery opens into vast red-soil plains dotted with acacia trees and views of the distant Yatta Plateau. Your first game drive takes you across the open savannah in search of elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and various antelopes. Morning offers ideal wildlife activity, and your guide leads you through prime viewing areas, including the well-known Aruba Dam, where animals gather to drink. After an exciting morning, you proceed to your lodge or camp for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, you head out for another game drive, exploring new routes as temperatures cool and animals become more active. You return to the lodge in the early evening for dinner, relaxation, and an overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the wilderness.

The drive from Tsavo East offers additional chances to spot wildlife. Upon arrival, you begin a midday game drive, exploring rolling hills, forested areas, and open plains home to elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and abundant birdlife. Around lunchtime, you proceed to your lodge, often the iconic Salt Lick Safari Lodge, built on stilts above a busy waterhole. After your meal and a short rest, you head out for an afternoon game drive, enjoying cooler temperatures and increased animal activity. Later in the morning, you check out and begin your journey out of the sanctuary, with another short drive through the conservancy to catch any last-minute wildlife sightings.
