Begin your adventure in Mekelle, where you'll meet your tour group and hop into a Toyota Land Cruiser for a convoy into the Danakil Depression. Departure is around 9 AM, and the drive kicks off on smooth, paved roads, providing stunning views of the Tigrayan landscape as you leave town.
As you approach the Afar region, the roads become bumpier, guiding you into the distinctive terrain of the Danakil Depression. Here, you'll encounter a unique mix of solidified lava, rocky formations, and sandy expanses, with the occasional palm oasis adding a splash of greenery.
Continue toward the small village of Hamed Ela, passing through Berhale, the official entry point into the Danakil Depression. Keep an eye out for long camel caravans transporting salt, a vital resource for the local economy.
Spend the night camping at Hamed Ela, where you can soak in the beauty of the desert under a starry sky.

Day 2
Dallol to mekelle
Dallol to mekelle
After a hearty breakfast at Hamed Ela, set off for Ragad (Asebo), where you'll witness local Afar people engaged in traditional salt mining, loading their harvest onto camel caravans.
Next, head to Dallol, famous for its stunning geological features. The vibrant colors of greens, reds, and yellows, created by acidic springs and salt formations, will make you feel like you've stepped onto another planet.
Following your exploration, visit Lake Asale, one of two hyper-saline lakes in the Danakil Depression. Don't miss the breathtaking sunset over this mesmerizing lake.
Finally, embark on your return drive to Mekelle, where you can connect with your flight back to Addis Ababa or continue your onward journey.
