Kigali City Tour – Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, begin the day with a guided visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a deeply moving and educational experience that offers insight into Rwanda’s past and its inspiring path toward reconciliation and unity. Following the visit, depart Kigali and drive north toward Volcanoes National Park, enjoying scenic views of rolling hills, terraced farms, and rural villages. En route, stop for lunch before continuing to the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, where you’ll learn about groundbreaking gorilla conservation and research efforts. Arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon to relax and enjoy views of the Virunga volcanoes.

Mountain Gorilla Trekking – Volcanoes National Park

Today is the highlight of your journey. After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for registration and a detailed briefing by expert rangers on gorilla behavior, conservation, and trekking guidelines. You will then be assigned a gorilla family based on fitness level and group size. The trek may take between two and six hours through bamboo forest and mountainous terrain, led by experienced trackers. Spending one unforgettable hour in the presence of a gorilla family—observing their interactions, expressions, and movements—is a profoundly emotional and life-changing experience. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing and reflecting on this extraordinary encounter.

Golden Monkey Trek – Return to Kigali & Departure - Tanzania Extension

After breakfast, return to the park headquarters for your Golden Monkey trek. These rare and energetic primates are known for their playful behavior and striking golden fur. The trek is generally shorter and less demanding than the gorilla trek, yet equally rewarding, offering excellent photography opportunities. After spending time observing the monkeys in the bamboo forest, return to the lodge to freshen up and enjoy lunch. Later, drive back to Kigali, where you may enjoy a farewell dinner at a top local restaurant before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
