From December to March, the region is vibrant with the calving season, as thousands of wildebeests and zebras give birth each day. The short, nutrient-rich grasses provide an ideal nursery, offering food for the young and clear visibility for adults to watch for predators, creating a relatively safe environment for the newborns.

Ndutu to Ngorongoro Crater

Your final day of safari begins with an early departure around 6:30 a.m., either after a light breakfast at your lodge or with a packed breakfast to enjoy on the way. Travel to the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife destinations.
Descend into the crater for a 5-hour game drive, offering excellent opportunities to see a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, black rhinos, and possibly lions. The combination of breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife makes this a true highlight of your safari—so keep your camera ready.
