Crossing into the forest

Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kigali. Your private guide will navigate the scenic route to the Uganda border, handling all formalities for a smooth transition. After a cultural pause for lunch in a Ugandan town, you'll travel deeper into the countryside, arriving at the edge of the lush Kalinzu Forest by afternoon. Settle into your forest lodge before stretching your legs on a guided nature walk, an excellent primer to spot colobus monkeys and exotic birds. The evening is for relaxing, listening to the forest's nocturnal chorus over dinner.

The chimpanzee encounter and homeward journey

Awake at dawn for the day's highlight. After a brief drive to the ranger post, you'll receive a tracking briefing before venturing into the dense forest. The trek is an adventure in itself, following expert guides through the vibrant ecosystem. The moment you find the chimpanzees is pure magic you'll spend a full, captivating hour observing their complex social interactions. After the trek and a celebratory lunch, you'll begin the return trip to Rwanda, crossing the border again with your guide's assistance, and arriving back in Kigali by early evening.
