Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our company representative, who will also serve as your driver-guide for this safari. Drive to the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn more about the 1994 Rwanda genocide. At the site, 250,000 victims of the 1994 Rwanda genocide were laid to rest. Currently, it is an honored place of remembrance for the victims and also offers insight into the reconciliation process among Rwandans and the rapid growth of their country. From here, you will be transferred to your booked hotel in Kigali. Check in to the hotel for the overnight stay.

Day 2

After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you will check out, meet your safari guide and drive out of Kigali to Akagera National Park. Mid way of the journey, you will stop over at one of the restaurants, enjoy lunch, and later proceed to the park. Upon arrival, you will check in at the park offices, and go for the sunset boat cruise, which gives a chance to see hippos in the water, crocodiles, and other mammals along the lake shores. The trip ends at 6pm, after which you will proceed to your lodge, check in, and rest.

Wake up to the sounds of the wild, enjoy your early morning breakfast at the lodge, and head out for the game drive that will take you searching for the Big Five. On this full-day game drive, you will see zebras, giraffes, and different kinds of bird species. You will have a break and enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. In the late afternoon, you will drive back to the lodge and spend the evening relaxing and taking in the stunning views of the surroundings.

Day 4

Akagera to Volcanoes National Park

Akagera to Volcanoes National Park

On this fourth day of your Rwanda safari, you will wake up at your leisure, have breakfast, and check out. Then start the approximately 5.5-hour drive from Akagera to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Check into your accommodation, have lunch, and spend the afternoon relaxing. Alternatively, you can choose to go to the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund for insight into the conservation of mountain gorillas or go for a community walk in the evening, or for The Gorilla Guardians cultural experience.
The Dian Fossey Fund tour is a self-guided tour around the building, while the community tour offers a chance to interact with the locals and learn about their way of life, and the Gorilla Guardians cultural experience showcases more of the traditional way of doing things in Rwanda.

Day 5

Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

The day will start with an early-morning breakfast at the lodge, followed by a transfer to the park headquarters. You will go through a briefing about the dos and donts plsu what to expect during the adventure. Depending on the gorilla family allocated to your group, you will head to the starting point and get on the trek into the forest. The search for the gorillas through the forested jungle can last for 2 hours or more, depending on the location of the gorillas. When you come across them, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence, and later exit the forest to return to the lodge.

On this last day of your 6-day Rwanda safari, you will start enjoy a leisurely breakfast before checking out of the lodge. Thereafter, hit the road and drive back to Kigali. If you have extra time before your flight, you will visit Kimironko market for shopping, especially to have souvenirs for memories of this Rwanda safari. Bid farewell to Kigali city, and be driven to the airport for your evening departure flight.
Optional activity in the morning before leaving Musanze to Kigali - golden monkey trekking.
