Of all areas in the Serengeti National Park, the Northern Serengeti could just be the most special. Whenever you're here, you can expect fantastic wildlife (especially big cats and elephants) and much quieter safari trails, especially when compared to the rest of the park. The landscape is also unique, with rolling grasslands, hills and the iconic Mara River.

Early Morning Game Drive, Northern Serengeti National Park
Put on some warm clothes and enjoy an early morning game drive. This is the perfect time to experience the wildlife and the landscapes they inhabit. The light is soft and warm – perfect for photography – and most animals are out and about, and active. If you’re not an early riser, you’ll definitely want to make an exception here.

After breakfast, drive to the Central Serengeti, the heart of the migration. Spend the day exploring the endless plains dotted with acacia trees, tracking predators and witnessing large herbivore gatherings. This region is perfect for photographing dramatic wildlife interactions. In the evening, check into Melia Serengeti Lodge, offering stunning views of the savannah, and enjoy a well-deserved dinner.

You’ll learn why magical Ngorongoro is unlike anywhere else in Africa. Cloud forests encircle the crater rim, and the view out across the caldera of this former volcano – quite apart from the altitude – will leave you gasping for air. Your drive down a steep trail carries you onto the crater floor where a unique wildlife offering is added to the sheer beauty of the experience. You’ll share the sunken ecosystem of the crater floor with hyenas, lions, elephants, black rhinos and hippos. An ecosystem that has formed in the crater in the millennia since the volcano wrought its terrible fury upon the land. It could just be one of your best safari days ever.
