After an early breakfast, transfer by road to O.R. Tambo International Airport for your flight to Walvis Bay Airport, located about 40 km from Swakopmund. Depart on the Airlink flight at 10:20 am, arriving at 12:55 pm. On arrival, you will check in and have lunch at your own expense. At 3:00 pm, you will be picked up for a tour of Swakopmund, a coastal town with strong German colonial influence, ocean views, desert landscapes, a lighthouse, and historic German architecture. Optional adventure activities include quad biking, sandboarding, or a scenic flight. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the hotel.

Swakopmund’s history dates to 1487 when the Portuguese sailor Bartholomew Diaz landed on Namibian soil at Cape Cross and erected a stone cross. In 1793, two Dutch sailors briefly anchored at the mouth of the Swakop River. Later, in 1862, the crew of a German gunboat hoisted the German flag at the mouth of the Swakop River, signaling the occupation of the territory.

The half-day afternoon Sandwich Harbour 4x4 excursion runs daily from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. En route to the Sandwich Harbour area, stop at the lagoon to see flamingos before continuing through the Walvis Bay Saltpans to the Kuiseb River Delta. Depending on tides and swell, the journey may follow the beach to the Sandwich Harbour Lagoon or, alternatively, include an exciting dune drive to a lookout point offering aerial views of the lagoon.

Along the way, stop to enjoy world-famous oysters, sparkling wine, snacks, coffee, and tea. Depending on weather conditions, refreshments may be served on top of a high dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, on the beach, or among the dunes.
