Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met and warmly welcomed by our safari driver/guide, marking the beginning of your adventure. Depending on your arrival time, you are you'll go an optional Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial for a meaningful historical insight, as well as local craft villages where you can purchase souvenirs and any essentials you may need for your upcountry travels.

Day 2

Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Nyungwe NP. The drive is one of the most beautiful in the country, taking you through Rwanda’s famous “Land of a Thousand Hills” scenery, with rolling green valleys, terraced hillsides, tea plantations, and small rural villages along the way. Nyungwe National Park is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees and large groups of colobus monkeys. It is also a top birding destination, with many rare and endemic Albertine Rift bird species. Other popular activities in Nyungwe include the famous canopy walk, which offers breathtaking views over the treetops, and a variety of forest trails leading to waterfalls, viewpoints, and hidden parts of the rainforest.

On arrival, you will check in at your lodge and have time to relax and enjoy the forest surroundings. Depending on your arrival time and interest, you may also choose to explore the area with a guided nature walk or enjoy the views over the forest and tea estates.

Chimp Trekking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe National Park

After an early breakfast, you will head to Nyungwe NP for a briefing before starting your chimpanzee trek in this high-altitude rainforest. Accompanied by expert guides and trackers, you will hike through dense forest trails for approximately 1 to 4 hours as you search for chimpanzees, which are often active and fast-moving in the treetops. Along the way, you may also spot other primates such as colobus, L’Hoest monkeys and blue monkeys, as well as a variety of birdlife, since Nyungwe is one of the best birding destinations in the region. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend time observing their behaviour as they feed, groom, and move through the forest canopy.

Following lunch at the lodge, you will enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a suspended bridge high above the forest floor that offers breathtaking views of the treetops, surrounding hills, and misty landscapes, making it one of the most memorable and scenic experiences in Rwanda.

After breakfast, you will transfer to Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s most beautiful and peaceful freshwater lakes, located along the scenic border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The drive offers stunning views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, with the scenery gradually opening up as you approach the Lakeshore.

On arrival, you will check in at your lakeside lodge and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying a well-deserved break after the more active safari and trekking experiences. Lake Kivu is known for its calm waters, fresh breeze, and relaxing atmosphere, making it the perfect place to unwind. Depending on your interests, you may choose (Optional at an extra cost) to take a boat cruise, swim in designated areas, enjoy the beach, or simply relax by the water with beautiful sunset views over the lake and surrounding hills. After breakfast, you'll begin your transfer to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, a region famous for its dramatic volcanic landscapes and mountain gorilla habitat. The drive takes you through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside, passing rolling green hills, terraced farms, and lively local villages, offering a great glimpse into everyday life in the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” As you approach the park, the scenery becomes more mountainous, with the impressive Virunga Volcanoes rising in the distance and creating a breathtaking backdrop.

On arrival at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park, you will check in and enjoy lunch, which will be served at the lodge. In the evening, if you are interested (at an optional extra fee), you may choose to visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a chance to experience local traditions, dance performances, and Rwandan culture. Or else, the rest of the day will be at leisure, allowing you to relax, as you prepare for the experiences ahead.

After an early breakfast, you'll head to the park head quarters for a briefing before starting your golden monkey trekking experience. In company of expert guides, you'll hike through the beautiful bamboo in search of the playful golden monkeys, known for their energetic movements and striking golden-orange fur. The trek lasts between 1 and 3 hours depending on the location of the group, and once found, you will spend time observing them as they feed, jump between bamboo stalks, and interact within the troop, offering excellent photography opportunities. After the trek, you'll begin your transfer to Bwindi NP in Uganda, a scenic cross-border journey through rolling hills, rural villages, and lush countryside as you travel into one of Africa’s most iconic rainforest destinations. After an early breakfast, you'll transfer to the Bwindi park headquarters for a briefing before beginning your unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. You'll be assigned a gorilla family and accompanied by experienced guides and trackers as you hike through dense rainforest vegetation, steep trails, and sometimes muddy terrain, with the trek taking anywhere from 1 to 6 hours depending on the gorillas’ location that day. Along the way, you may encounter other forest wildlife and learn about the park’s unique ecology, as Bwindi is one of the most biodiverse forests in Africa. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend a magical one hour in their presence, observing them at close range as they feed, rest, play, and interact naturally within the group, a truly moving and once-in-a-lifetime experience. After breakfast, you will begin your transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, travelling through the scenic landscapes of southwestern Uganda and passing through the famous Ishasha Sector, which is well known for its rare tree-climbing lions. This journey is not just a transfer, but also a rewarding wildlife experience, as you will enjoy a game drive through Ishasha en route, searching for lions resting in fig trees, as well as elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and other wildlife that may be spotted along the way. The route takes you through beautiful countryside, local villages, and open savannah plains, offering a wonderful change in scenery from Bwindi’s rainforest. After your wildlife sightings in Ishasha, you will continue deeper into Queen Elizabeth National Park and proceed to your lodge for check-in and relaxation, arriving in time to enjoy the park’s breathtaking views and prepare for the next day’s safari activities.

After an early breakfast, you will head out for a morning game drive in Queen. The morning is an excellent time for wildlife viewing, as animals are most active in the cooler hours, and be for a look out of wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, lions, as well as birds including eagles, hornbills, and other savannah species. After the game drive, return to the lodge for a lunch break and some time to rest and freshen up.

Later, you will proceed for a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, a waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is famous for having one of the highest concentrations of hippos in Africa. During the cruise, you'll enjoy close-up views of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants coming to drink at the shore, and large herds of buffaloes, as well as numerous water birds such as pelicans, kingfishers, cormorants, and African fish eagles. After the boat safari, you will return to the lodge for relaxation and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will check out and begin your scenic transfer from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Murchison Falls National Park, traveling through Uganda’s ever-changing landscapes of rolling hills, rural villages, tea and banana plantations, and lively roadside markets. This is a longer but rewarding drive, with planned stops along the way for refreshments, stretching, and lunch in one of the towns en route. As you continue north, the scenery gradually opens into broader savannah plains, signalling your approach to Uganda’s largest and most dramatic national park. Arrive in Murchison Falls later in the day and proceed to your lodge for check-in, dinner, and a restful overnight stay ahead of the next day’s wildlife adventures.

You'll wake up early in the morning for your guided game drive on the northern bank of the River Nile in your pop-up roof vehicle which will give you an excellent opportunity to view and photograph the diverse wildlife. Your guide will help you spot elephants, lions, cape buffalos, Rothchild’s giraffes, hartebeests, waterbucks, oribis, bushbucks, bohor reedbuck, hyenas, and if you are lucky, leopard.
After lunch, you'll have a guided return boat cruise upstream the calm Victoria Nile to the base of the falls stopping just a few meters from the Devil’s Cauldron. You'll marvel at the schools of hippos, and crocodiles, and over the 17km stretch you may see elephants, waterbucks, and Uganda Kob. This is also the zone of many birds, species like the goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant, and the rare shoebill stork.
