Day 1

Upon your arrival in Kigali, either at the airport or your city hotel, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional driver guide. After a short briefing, you will set off on a scenic drive northwards through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside, famously known as the Land of a Thousand Hills. Enjoy panoramic views of rolling green hills, terraced farms, rural villages, and lush landscapes as you journey toward Volcanoes National Park in the Musanze region.

You will arrive in the late afternoon, allowing time to unwind after the drive. Depending on your energy levels, you may take a gentle walk through a nearby local village, offering a chance to experience everyday Rwandan life, culture, and warm hospitality. Later, you will transfer to your lodge, check in, and enjoy a delicious dinner before settling in for a peaceful overnight stay surrounded by the cool mountain air and stunning scenery of the Virunga region.

Day 2

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a detailed briefing before setting off on your golden monkey trekking adventure. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will hike through the scenic bamboo forests in search of these lively and endangered primates. The trek typically lasts 4 to 6 hours, depending on their location, and offers excellent photography opportunities as you observe them in their natural habitat.

After the trek, you will visit the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to learn about ongoing gorilla conservation efforts and research initiatives. Following this inspiring experience, return to your lodge for lunch before continuing your scenic journey across the border into Uganda for the next chapter of your safari.

Gorilla Trekking in Uganda & Return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, your guide will escort you to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a comprehensive briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines and safety. You will then head into the forest accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers, hiking through lush vegetation in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family.

The trek may last between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the movement and location of the gorillas. Once you encounter them, you will spend an unforgettable hour observing these magnificent and gentle giants as they feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat, a truly humbling wildlife experience.

After your trek, you will return to the lodge to relax and enjoy a well earned lunch. Later in the afternoon, begin a scenic drive back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or transferred to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of an extraordinary primate safari.
