Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or JKIA (around 8:00-8:30 AM). Drive through the Great Rift Valley with a photo stop at the stunning viewpoint overlooking the valley floor. Arrive at Lake Naivasha by late morning. After checking into your budget lodge or camp and enjoying lunch, embark on a boat ride on the freshwater lake—an included activity in most budget packages. Get up close to hippos, spot fish eagles diving for prey, and observe cormorants and other waterbirds. You may have the option to visit Crescent Island for a walking safari (at extra cost) where you can walk among giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest. Activity: Morning Drive & Afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park (approximately 1.5-2 hours drive). Arrive in time for lunch at your budget hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in this Rift Valley gem, famous as a rhino sanctuary and for its spectacular flamingo flocks (seasonal). Lake Nakuru is home to both black and white rhinos, and you'll also see Rothschild giraffes, buffalo, waterbuck, and if you're lucky, leopards in the acacia woodlands. The park hosts over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, depart for the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. The scenic drive takes approximately 5-6 hours through the Great Rift Valley, with lunch en-route (packed or at a stop). Arrive at your budget camp or lodge in the early afternoon, check in, and enjoy some rest. In the late afternoon (around 4:00 PM), head out for your first game drive in the Mara—a sunset game viewing drive where chances of seeing the big cats are extremely high. Today is dedicated to immersing yourself in the Mara's vast savannah. Start early (around 6:30 AM breakfast, depart by 7:00 AM) for a full day of wildlife viewing with a packed picnic lunch. Your guide will explore the reserve's diverse landscapes in search of the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—as well as cheetahs, hyenas, giraffes, hippos, Nile crocodiles, and countless antelope species. If visiting between July and October, you may witness the dramatic river crossings of the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebras brave the crocodile-infested Mara River.
