Nairobi to Maasai Mara – The Aerial Gateway

Your journey begins with a transfer to Wilson Airport (WIL) in Nairobi for a morning flight. As the aircraft ascends, you will witness the dramatic drop of the Gregory Rift, a major branch of the East African Rift system. Upon landing at the Keekorok or Ol Kiombo airstrip, a 4x4 vehicle will transfer you to Jambo Mara Safari Lodge. After a traditional welcome and lunch, embark on your first afternoon game drive. The Mara’s ecosystem, characterized by the Themeda triandra (red oat grass), provides the perfect backdrop for spotting large prides of lions and herds of African elephants. Return to the lodge for a sundowner and dinner.

With a packed picnic lunch, you can venture further toward the Mara River or the Talek convergence, areas known for high predator density. Your professional guide will utilize tracking techniques to locate the "Big Five." Special attention is given to the thickets where leopards often cache their prey and the open plains where Cape buffalo congregate in massive "dagga boy" herds. In the late afternoon, enjoy the golden hour—the optimal time for wildlife photography as the light hits the savannah at a low angle, highlighting the textures of the landscape.

Masai mara to Nairobi

Rise before dawn for a final "Early Bird" game drive. Predators are most active during the cool morning hours before the equatorial sun reaches its zenith. This is your best opportunity to spot a cheetah on a termite mound or a hyena returning to its den. Following a hearty bush breakfast, you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your return flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Wilson Airport, a private transfer will take you to your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for your international departure, concluding your high-efficiency safari.
