Nairobi to Masai Mara (Scenic Bush Flight & First Safari)

Nairobi to Masai Mara (Scenic Bush Flight & First Safari)

Flight time: approximately 45–60 minutes
Game drive distance: 30–50 km

Your safari begins with a morning transfer from your city hotel to Wilson Airport in Nairobi for a scheduled bush flight to the Masai Mara. Flights are typically operated by reputable regional airlines such as Safarilink or AirKenya.

As the aircraft climbs above the Great Rift Valley, enjoy spectacular aerial views of escarpments, rivers, and the endless savannah below.

After landing at the Masai Mara airstrip (usually around mid-morning), your professional guide will meet you for a game drive en route to camp.

Wildlife sightings often begin immediately. Zebras, giraffes, gazelles, and elephants are common along the way, while lions and cheetahs are frequently spotted resting in the open plains.

After lunch at camp and some time to relax, depart for your first afternoon game drive (approximately 15:30–18:30) exploring the wildlife-rich plains of the Mara's Talek region.

Game driving distance: 60–90 km

Rise early for a sunrise game drive (06:30–10:00) when predators are most active and the golden morning light offers exceptional photography opportunities.

Your guide will explore areas known for high concentrations of wildlife, including open grasslands where lion prides, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals are commonly seen.

Return to camp for breakfast and relaxation before heading out again in the afternoon.

The afternoon game drive (15:30–18:30) may include a visit to the Mara River, where large pods of hippos and enormous Nile crocodiles gather.

During migration season (July–October), this area becomes one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth as thousands of wildebeest attempt to cross the river.

Masai Mara Exploration & Maasai Cultural Visit

Game driving distance: 70–100 km

Today offers another opportunity to explore different areas of the Masai Mara ecosystem.

Depending on wildlife movement, your guide may extend the morning game drive or organize a full-day safari with picnic lunch, allowing you to explore deeper regions of the reserve where wildlife densities are highest. During the game drive, you may also opt for a walking safari with an armed guide to explore the Mara more intimately.

In the afternoon, visit a traditional Maasai village, where community members share insights into their pastoral lifestyle, traditional homes, and cultural heritage.

This experience supports local livelihoods and helps preserve one of East Africa’s most iconic cultures.

Guests interested in conservation can venture into and learn about community conservancies surrounding the Masai Mara, which help protect wildlife corridors while supporting Maasai communities.
