Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

Your climb begins at Marangu Gate, where park registration is completed at Kilimanjaro National Park. Trek through dense rainforest filled with towering trees, ferns, and wildlife such as colobus monkeys. The trail gradually ascends to Mandara Hut.

Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone with expansive views and unique alpine vegetation. Trek across open landscapes with stunning views of Mawenzi Peak before arriving at Horombo Hut.

Distance: 12 km
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland.

Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

Continue trekking across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape becomes dry and rocky as you enter the alpine desert zone. Arrive at Kibo Hut to rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Kibo Hut – Summit – Horombo Hut

Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Climb steeply to Gilman's Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Horombo Hut for rest.
