On arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by our representative - Your Driver Guide and drive you to your hotel in Kigali City. Depending on your arrival time, take a Kigali City Tour visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial and the Craft Market.

Day 2

Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park, home to chimpanzees and other primates. Have a short stopover in Nyanza before proceeding to Huye for a tour of Ethnographic Museum. There is also an opportunity to visit the Kings Palace Museum which is an alternative to the ethnographic Museum.
Depending on your interests, you can discuss with your driver guide on which museum to stop at. They both share Rwanda’s cultural history but the ethnographic Museum has more items and wide coverage. Arrive in Nyungwe Forest later in that evening and proceed to your lodge for check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk

Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk

After breakfast you will meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing where you are expected as early as 5:00 am. The ranger guide will share chimpanzee trekking tips as well as dos and don’ts.
Head into Nyungwe Forest looking for chimpanzees, the forest is rich with botanical diversity and is home 13 species of primates including Ruwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, silver monkey and grey cheeked mangabey among others.
The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night. Spend 1 hour observing the chimpanzees as they play, feed, pick fruits and groom.
Return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, take the canopy walk trail from the Uwinka Trail Head. On the walk you will enjoy the beautiful views of the forest, colorful bird species as well as primate species like olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others.

Day 4

Colobus Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Colobus Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, return to Nyungwe Forest for Colobus monkey trekking. Just like chimpanzee trekking, you will have a briefing from the community guide and later head into the forest. You are allowed one hour of watching the Colobus monkeys as they feed, play and groom each other.
After this amazing experience, leave for Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga Region. Enjoy the winding roads and scenery of a thousand hills driving along Lake Kivu. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today you will have an intimate encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, a highlight of this 6 Days Rwanda Primate Safari. Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking, a ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the forest.
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park takes approximately 30 minutes to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. You are allowed to spend only one hour in the presence of the gorillas as you watch them feed, play, pick fruits and groom each other. You are allowed to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off.
After an intimate hour with the gorillas, you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to your lodge for an evening of rest, enjoy dinner and have an overnight stay.

Day 6

Today is the last day of your 6 Days Rwanda Primate Safari, after breakfast return to the Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking, an incredible experience of watching the golden monkeys. After briefing from the ranger guides, drive to the starting point for the trek.
Just like gorillas, you are allowed one hour in the presence of the golden monkeys. Unlike gorillas, they are very active and still will give you a fulfilling experience. After one hour of observing these endangered and playful primates, you will trek back to the park headquarters and to your lodge to freshen up, have lunch and then leave for Kigali. You will be dropped off either at your hotel or at Kigali International Airport to catch your flight back home or to your next destination.
