Day 1
Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel or residence in Nairobi, followed by a scenic drive north through Kenya’s central highlands. You will make a brief stopover for refreshments before continuing toward the semi-arid northern frontier.
Arriving at Samburu National Reserve around midday, you’ll check in at your lodge or tented camp and enjoy lunch while overlooking the rugged wilderness. After some time to relax, you’ll head out for your first afternoon game drive. Samburu is distinct from other parks due to its dry landscape and unique wildlife species, often referred to as the “Samburu Special Five,” including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx. The Ewaso Nyiro River, which cuts through the reserve, attracts a wide variety of animals, making it an excellent place for wildlife viewing as the day cools.

Day 2
Full Day Samburu Game Drive
Full Day Samburu Game Drive
Spend a full day exploring Samburu National Reserve, starting with an early morning game drive when animals are most active. The cool morning hours provide the best opportunity to spot predators such as lions, leopards, and possibly cheetahs before they retreat from the rising heat. As the sun rises, you’ll also encounter herds of elephants making their way to the river, along with antelope species grazing in the open plains.
Return to your lodge for breakfast and some leisure time, where you can relax and enjoy the serene environment, often with wildlife visible from the camp itself. After lunch, embark on another afternoon game drive to further explore different sections of the reserve. For those interested in culture, an optional visit to a nearby Samburu village can be arranged, offering insight into traditional customs, dress, and daily life of the Samburu people at extra cost. This combination of wildlife and cultural interaction makes Samburu a truly unique safari destination.

After an early breakfast, depart Samburu and begin your journey south toward the Great Rift Valley. The drive takes you through changing landscapes, from the dry northern terrain back into the greener highlands, with scenic views along the way. You’ll pass through small towns and rural communities, giving you a glimpse into everyday Kenyan life beyond the parks.
Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch at your lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive in this compact yet incredibly rich park. Lake Nakuru is internationally known as a rhino sanctuary, offering one of the best chances in Kenya to see both black and white rhinos up close. The park is also home to Rothschild giraffes, lions, buffalo, and a wide variety of birdlife. Depending on water levels and season, the lake may be fringed with flamingos, creating a stunning pink shoreline. The surrounding acacia woodlands and rocky escarpments add to the park’s scenic beauty.

As you approach Amboseli, the landscape opens up into vast plains, and on clear days, the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro comes into view, rising above the clouds just across the border in Tanzania. Explore Amboseli National Park
Spend a full day exploring Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most iconic and photogenic parks. You’ll begin with an early morning game drive, the best time to witness Mount Kilimanjaro clearly before clouds gather around its peak. The sight of elephants roaming the plains with the snow-capped mountain in the background is one of Africa’s most famous safari images.
Amboseli is particularly known for its large elephant herds, many of which are well studied and accustomed to vehicles, allowing for close and memorable encounters. Beyond elephants, the park is home to lions, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalo, zebras, and numerous bird species. The park’s swamps, fed by underground water from Kilimanjaro, attract wildlife year-round and provide a lush contrast to the otherwise dry plains. After a midday break at your lodge, you’ll head out again in the afternoon for more game viewing and photography as the sun sets over the savannah or just opt for a full day game drive with picnic lunch.
