The Gura Forest Magic & Fly Camp
The Gura Forest Magic & Fly Camp
Route: From Gura River Campsite (Gura Trail)
Distance: ~8-10km hiking
Highlights: Montane forest, giant heather, colobus monkeys, fly camping
Overview: After an early morning departure from Nairobi (approx. 3-hour drive), you arrive at the Gura River Campsite in the heart of the Aberdare forest. You begin the Gura Trail, a gentle yet immersive hike through misty indigenous forest and giant heather zones. The trail follows the river's course, offering constant views of cascading streams and moss-draped rocks. Listen for the call of the elusive Aberdare cisticola and watch for sykes monkeys moving through the canopy. As afternoon mist rolls in, you return to camp for the night in a fly camp—a minimalist, lightweight camping experience that places you directly under the forest canopy, with only the sound of the Gura River lulling you to sleep.

Zuti Falls – An Adventurer's Descent
Route: Gura Camp to Zuti Falls and return
Distance: ~12km to Zuti falls (moderate to challenging)
Highlights: Zuti Falls (100m+ plunge), river crossings, steep ravine descent
Overview: After breakfast, you drive briefly to the Zuti area, a remote pocket of the Aberdares rarely visited by standard tours. The hike begins across open moorland before plunging sharply into a deep, forested ravine. This is an adventurer's trail—expect slippery roots, fixed ropes on steep sections, and two cold river crossings. Your reward is Zuti Falls, a powerful 100m+ cascade that crashes into an emerald pool surrounded by ferns and wild begonias. Few hikers ever see this fall. After lunch at the base, you make the strenuous ascent back to the vehicle and return to Gura Camp for a well-earned rest and hot meal.

The Manguyo Trail – AdventureGo's Frontier
Route: Gura Camp to Manguyo Waterfall (Deep Valley)
Distance: ~14km (hard, unmarked trail)
Highlights: Secret waterfall (very few have seen it), deep valley scrambling, frontier hiking
Overview: This is the signature trail of AdventureGo Hiking And Safaris—a route we pioneered and only we offer. The Manguyo Trail is unmarked, untamed, and not for the faint-hearted. You leave the main paths behind, pushing through giant ferns, finding our way through the bamboo forest, scrambling over moss-covered boulders, and navigating steep, slippery ravines. After several hours of challenging trekking, you arrive at Manguyo Waterfall, a pristine, veil-like cascade hidden in a secluded amphitheater of volcanic rock. No other tourists. No paths. Just you, the mist, and the roar. After a well-deserved rest and packed lunch at the falls, you hike back out of the deep valley, arriving in the evening at Deep Valley Lodge for hot showers, soft beds, and a celebration dinner by the fireplace.

Here, you explore the ruins of an early British military base, including an observation post and fort remnants from the colonial era. Just a short walk away stands the first Catholic missionary church in Kenya, built by Italian Consolata missionaries fathers in the early 1900s.
