Day 1

Kilimanjaro gaze - Nairobi to Amboseli

Kilimanjaro gaze - Nairobi to Amboseli

Your budget safari adventure kicks off at 8:00 am with a private pick-up from your Nairobi hotel. Board your safari jeep and head south through the sweeping Maasai plains of Kajiado, where red-cloaked herders move cattle across an acacia-dotted horizon. Arrive at Manjaro Hotel Amboseli in time for check-in and lunch — positioned with front-row views of Africa's highest peak, this is your home for the next two nights. Rest through the midday heat before your guide collects you at 3:30 pm for your first game drive. The late afternoon is Amboseli at its best — elephant herds drift toward the swamps, predators emerge from the shade, and Kilimanjaro burns gold behind them all. End with sundowners on the plains before returning for dinner and overnight.

Elephants as far as the eyes can see - Amboseli National park

Rise before the sun and head straight into the park — dawn is Amboseli's finest hour. Kilimanjaro stands fully clear above the clouds as elephant families move through the swamps in their hundreds. This is the world's greatest park for elephant viewing up close, and your guide knows these herds by heart. Stop mid-morning for a bush breakfast set against the mountain before continuing through Amboseli's prime wildlife zones. Return to Manjaro Hotel for lunch and an afternoon rest, then back out at 3:30 pm as lions, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, hippo, giraffe and hyena take centre stage on the open plains. Over 400 bird species call this park home — keep your binoculars ready. Every hour here with Kilimanjaro as your backdrop is one you will carry home.

After breakfast, your guide loads the jeep and you depart Amboseli, heading north through the dramatic Great Rift Valley toward Lake Nakuru National Park. The drive winds through sweeping escarpment views and Maasai highlands before arriving at Buraha Zenooni Lodge inside the park — check in and enjoy a well-earned lunch overlooking the forest and lake below. At 3:30 pm your afternoon game drive begins and Lake Nakuru delivers immediately. Kenya's celebrated rhino sanctuary is home to both black and white rhino — one of the best places on the continent to spot this rare giant. As the light fades, thousands of flamingos line the lakeshore in brilliant pink while pelicans, fish eagles and cormorants command the water. Lion, leopard, Rothschild giraffe, waterbuck and buffalo complete a spectacular first evening in the park.

Lake Nakuru to the Maasai mara Wild Savanna

Wake early for a final morning game drive inside Lake Nakuru — one last chance to track rhino through the acacia forest and watch flamingos glow in the morning light. At 9:00 am your guide turns the jeep west and the drive to the Maasai Mara begins, cutting through rolling Maasai highlands as the landscape grows wilder with every kilometre. Arrive at Mara Ntulele Camp in time for lunch — settle in, breathe in the vast savannah stretching to the horizon, and let the anticipation build. At 3:30 pm your game drive rolls out onto the endless Mara plains for the first time. Lions own the late afternoon here. Cheetah scan open ground. Elephant and buffalo move through golden light. Maasai Mara Game Dive 7 am to 5 pm

Today is yours and the Mara's entirely. Rise before dawn and head into the reserve as first light breaks over the savannah — lions returning from a night hunt, cheetah mothers leading cubs across open ground, elephant herds moving silently through the golden grass. Your guide tracks movement across the Mara's key zones — the Mara River, Musiara Swamp and the open Mara Triangle. Stop mid-morning for a bush breakfast in the heart of the park, then push deeper into the reserve as the action unfolds. At midday your guide sets up a picnic lunch in the wild — a proper meal served in the open bush with nothing but the Mara around you. The afternoon game drive continues straight from lunch — predators active, light cinematic, plains full of surprises. Sundowners on the savannah as the sky turns amber before returning to Mara Ntulele for dinner under the stars.

Be welcomed into the boma by red-cloaked warriors, witness the iconic adumu jumping dance, step inside a traditional mud-and-thatch home, and browse handcrafted beadwork and jewellery made by village women. Your guide translates stories of Maasai customs, cattle culture and their deep bond with this land and its wildlife. A rare, human moment in a safari full of extraordinary encounters.
