Later, as animals head to the river, an exciting boat safari on the Kazinga Channel offers close encounters with countless hippos and herds of elephants and buffalo bathing at the shoreline. For many, this is the highlight of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Bunyonyi means ‘place of many little birds’. This beautiful lake, surrounded by terraced hillsides, contains 29 islands. It is a magical place to wake up, especially with early morning mist on the water. You will see children paddling dugout canoes to school and farmers transporting goods to market. You can spend your time swimming, hiking, bird watching, and taking boat rides. Lake Bunyonyi is bilharzia, croc, and hippo free, allowing you to relax in its cool waters. Cultural hikes also offer insight into local traditions. The only chatter here comes from the numerous birds. Your accommodation will be Bunyonyi Safaris Resort.
Alternatively, Mutanda Lake Resort offers some of the best views in Uganda, perched on a peninsula overlooking islands and the Virunga volcanoes. While Gorilla Tracking is the highlight of southern Bwindi Forest, the area is also perfect for volcano hikes, birding, and paddle board excursions. Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
Half of the world’s gorilla population lives under the mist-covered canopies of Uganda’s oldest, most biologically diverse rainforest. Accompanied by an experienced park ranger, you will track one of the nine habituated family groups. Your journey will be exciting yet challenging, navigating muddy slopes, tangled vines, and thick vegetation to reach these gentle giants. En-route, your ranger will point out signs of activity like dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots.
Depending on the gorillas' location, the walk can take between 2 to 7 hours. Once the family is located, you have one hour to quietly observe these fascinating primates. Encountering mountain gorillas in the wild is a humbling and emotional experience you will remember for the rest of your life.
