Your safari begins with a morning transfer from your hotel or residence in Nairobi to Wilson Airport for a short scenic flight to Amboseli. As you leave the city behind, the landscape shifts dramatically from urban sprawl to open plains, with views of rural Kenya unfolding below. Upon landing at the Amboseli airstrip, you’ll be met by your lodge’s guide and driven to camp with a gentle game drive en route—your first chance to spot elephants, giraffes, and possibly lions. After check-in and lunch, enjoy some rest before heading out again in the late afternoon when wildlife becomes more active. The backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro—often visible in the early evening—adds a striking setting. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds, so you’ll likely spend time observing these animals up close as they move across the plains. Return to camp for breakfast and relaxation during the midday heat—perhaps enjoying the pool or viewing wildlife from the lodge. In the afternoon, head out for another game drive across different sections of the park, including swamps fed by underground springs where hippos and birds gather. Expect a mix of plains game like zebras, wildebeest, and antelope throughout the day. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Photographers often use this day to capture Amboseli’s iconic elephant silhouettes against Kilimanjaro. The pace is unhurried, allowing you to fully absorb the landscape and wildlife rhythms. Return to camp for your final night, often marked by a special dinner or sundowner experience.
