Day 3

Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu

After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive in this extraordinary natural enclosure. The crater floor is home to a high concentration of wildlife, offering one of the best chances to see the Big Five in a single location. Expect to sighting elephants, buffaloes, lions, zebras, wildebeests, and hippos, along with a variety of birdlife around the crater lakes. With some luck, the endangered black rhino may also be spotted. The landscape inside the crater is diverse, featuring open grasslands, swamps, and acacia forests that support a wide range of species. After a picnic lunch on the crater floor, ascend back to the rim and continue to Karatu for overnight. The cooler climate and peaceful surroundings provide a relaxing end to a rewarding safari day.

After breakfast, depart Karatu for Lake Manyara National Park, located at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Upon arrival, begin a game drive through the lush groundwater forest, home to baboons, monkeys, and a variety of bird species. As the landscape opens, explore the lakeshore and surrounding plains where elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and zebras are mostly seen. The park is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, although sightings are not always guaranteed. The alkaline lake attracts flamingos and other water birds, creating a colorful and dynamic environment. Enjoy a game drive across the park’s diverse habitats before exiting in the afternoon. Later, return to Arusha, marking the end of your safari with a blend of forest, lake, and wildlife experiences.
