Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, your Joyful Safaris and Tours guide will pick you up from your accommodation and drive to Tarangire National Park (about 2.5 hours on good tarmac roads). The park is named after the Tarangire River, the main water source for wildlife during the dry season, often called the “river of warthogs.”
Tarangire is famous for large elephant herds, often seen near the river, as well as giraffes, bushbuck, and hartebeest. Predators such as lions and leopards are also commonly spotted. The park is a birdwatcher’s paradise with many species, and is known for its iconic ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old.
Lunch will be at a picnic site inside the park. After your game drive, you will continue to your lodge in Karatu for overnight stay.

Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, you will drive to the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. When you first see the Ngorongoro Crater, it appears like a hidden world, with steep volcanic walls, open savannahs, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps forming a breathtaking wilderness.
The crater was formed about two to three million years ago when a giant volcano erupted and collapsed. Covering about 260 km², it is one of Africa’s richest wildlife areas, known for its dense concentration of large mammals.
After descending into the crater, you will encounter wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and over 500 bird species. It also offers one of the best chances to see the endangered black rhino.
Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site on the crater floor. Later, you will return to your accommodation in Karatu for overnight stay.

Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
After breakfast, you’ll drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact yet incredibly diverse park located about 120 km west of Arusha. Despite its small size, the park offers dramatic scenery, stretching between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the shallow, seasonal lake that gives the park its name.
Lake Manyara National Park is known for its rich ecosystems and remarkable wildlife variety. The lake attracts thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and more than 500 other bird species. In the lush evergreen forest, you may encounter baboons, elephants, and other forest-dwelling wildlife, while the open areas are famous for the park’s unique tree-climbing lions.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, surrounded by nature at its best, before continuing your afternoon game drive.
