We pause for lunch before taking a scenic detour to the impressive Blyde River Canyon, stopping briefly at highlights such as God’s Window, Lisbon Falls, and the Three Rondavels. From here, continue on to Kruger, arriving in the late afternoon, with a short game drive en route to your camp inside the park.

Rise before sunrise to experience the bush at its most active, as nocturnal animals wind down and others move in the cool morning air. After a few hours of game viewing, stop for coffee or tea with traditional rusks in a scenic spot.

Continue on before enjoying a freshly prepared breakfast at a picnic site overlooking the bushveld. From here, travel through the park toward your next camp, with plenty of wildlife sightings along the way. Arrive early afternoon and settle in, with time to relax.

Later, head out on a sunset drive with park rangers, returning to camp for dinner around the fire, prepared over open coals under the African sky. Finish the evening with a quiet walk to the fence, keeping an eye out for nocturnal visitors, with your nightcap in hand.

Start early once again to catch the bush at its most active, heading out on a rewarding morning game drive into a different area of the park for new scenery and sightings. Along the way, enjoy a relaxed bush breakfast at a picnic spot. For those looking for something different, you can swap the drive for a guided bush walk with park rangers, offering a closer look at the smaller details of the wilderness (optional extra).

Return to camp during the warmer hours to unwind, take a dip in the pool, browse the curio shop, or simply relax in the shade as wildlife passes by. In the afternoon, head out for another game drive at an easy pace, stopping for snacks including cheese, biscuits, and traditional biltong. As the sun sets, soak in your final evening in the bush before returning to camp for dinner under the stars.

Day 4

Head to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve via Eswatini

Enjoy one final early morning drive, shorter this time, before returning to camp for breakfast and check out. A relaxed drive through the park follows as you make your way to the exit gate, with a last chance to spot something special.

From here, begin your journey toward the KZN east coast, travelling through the Kingdom of Eswatini as a scenic shortcut to Hluhluwe. Stop for lunch along the way (own account) and take in the cultural contrast.

Re-enter South Africa and continue to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, where you’ll stay inside the reserve at iMpila Camp. Unlike Kruger, there are no fences, allowing wildlife to roam freely through camp.

Freshen up before gathering around the fire as your guide prepares a traditional braai, with the chance of spotting hyena or bushbabies nearby.

Rise early and head out after coffee or tea, catching the bush as the sun lifts over the savanna, when predators are often still active. Spend the morning on an unhurried game drive, with a mid-drive stop for refreshments and a snack. As the day warms, watch the bush come alive with elephant, giraffe, zebra, and a variety of antelope.

Return to camp for a hearty brunch prepared by your guide. The midday hours are yours to relax, take a stroll around camp, enjoy the birdlife, or simply unwind with the surrounding views.

In the afternoon, set out once more in search of wildlife, building on your growing sightings list. End the day with a stunning sunset, followed by stories around the fire and a traditional South African dinner. Later, look up to a sky filled with stars as your guide points out the constellations.

Wake early once more with fresh coffee before heading out on your final game drive, your guide focused on ticking off any last sightings. Return to camp for breakfast, then pack up and check out. From here, travel to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in St Lucia, home to one of Africa’s largest populations of hippo and Nile crocodile.

After settling into your accommodation, enjoy a two-hour boat cruise on the estuary, where hippos, crocodiles, abundant birdlife, and other wildlife are often seen. Later, explore the reserve on an afternoon drive, including the unspoiled beaches of Cape Vidal.

As the sun sets, head into town for dinner (own account). You can then opt for a night drive in the park, offering a chance to spot nocturnal species such as hyena, bushbabies, chameleons, and even the elusive leopard, before returning for a well-earned rest.

Today is a real highlight. Set out on a scenic hike to the base of the Amphitheatre, where you’ll witness the awe-inspiring Tugela Falls, the world’s second highest waterfall at 910m. The hike is longer in distance but not overly demanding, and the reward is well worth it. Bring along snacks and drinks, and take your time soaking in the incredible mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings.

Return to camp in the late afternoon with time to relax, put your feet up, and enjoy the crisp mountain air. Later, settle in for dinner, and if you still have the energy, step outside for some unforgettable stargazing beneath the clear Drakensberg skies.
