Upon arrival, you will start a full day game drive across open plains, river valleys, swamps, and acacia woodland. Tarangire is home to elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, and predators such as lions and leopards.
During the dry season, many animals gather along the Tarangire River, creating excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Enter Serengeti for an en route game drive across the central plains toward the northern Mara River region. Wildlife sightings may begin immediately, including lions on kopjes, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, and large antelope herds.
As you approach Northern Serengeti, migration activity increases. During the season, wildebeest and zebras gather near the Mara River while crocodiles wait below and predators track movement.

Day 3

Northern Serengeti Full-Day Game Drive

Northern Serengeti Full-Day Game Drive

Today is fully dedicated to the northern Serengeti. After breakfast, you head out with picnic lunch for a full day game drive focused on the Great Migration and predator activity around the Mara River. This region is known for large herds of wildebeest and zebra moving in search of fresh grazing and water, creating constant wildlife action.

The landscape here includes rolling hills, riverine forest, open plains, and rocky outcrops that support strong predator presence. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, elephants, and large herbivores are commonly seen. One key highlight can be a Mara River crossing, where thousands of animals attempt to cross crocodile-filled waters. These crossings are unpredictable and can happen at any time, sometimes after long waiting periods.

The northern Serengeti is quieter than other areas, giving a more exclusive safari feel. After a full day, return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.

Northern Serengeti Full-Day Game Drive

Northern Serengeti Full-Day Game Drive

Another full day in the northern Serengeti allows more time to track migration movement and improve chances of witnessing a river crossing. Your guide adjusts the route based on recent sightings, focusing either on the Mara River or nearby valleys and plains where predators follow migrating herds.

This area also supports resident wildlife year-round. Expect elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hippos, and diverse antelope species. Predator activity remains strong, especially early morning and late afternoon when hunting is more active.

Birdlife is also rich, with vultures, fish eagles, kingfishers, and secretary birds commonly seen. The scenery changes throughout the day, from riverbanks to open savannah, giving varied game viewing.

Sunset light often creates strong photographic conditions across the plains. Dinner and overnight again in Northern Serengeti.

You then travel toward Central Serengeti with an en route game drive. The scenery shifts as you enter Seronera, an area known for permanent water sources and high wildlife concentration throughout the year.

Central Serengeti is especially good for big cats. Lions are often seen resting on kopjes or under trees, leopards stay around riverine forests, and cheetahs hunt in open plains. Wildlife density increases as you approach the Seronera Valley.

Arrival at your lodge or camp is in the late afternoon or evening for dinner and overnight. This section of the park offers a different safari atmosphere compared to the north.

The crater has grasslands, swamps, forests, and a soda lake that attracts flamingos and other bird species. Wildlife density is high due to permanent water and fertile ground.

You have strong chances of seeing the Big Five, including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and black rhinos. Other animals include zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos, and warthogs.

After a picnic lunch inside the crater, you ascend the rim and begin your drive back to Arusha. Arrival is in the evening, marking the end of the safari with strong wildlife memories from Tanzania’s key parks.
