After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Hawassa, the gateway to Ethiopia’s renowned southern coffee regions. Upon arrival, drive through the scenic Sidama Highlands, famous for producing some of the finest Arabica coffee in the world. Visit local coffee farms and traditional washing stations to learn about the entire coffee production process, from hand-picking ripe coffee cherries to wet and dry processing methods. Today you will explore Yirgacheffe, one of Ethiopia’s most famous specialty coffee regions known worldwide for its floral aroma and delicate coffee flavors. Visit local coffee cooperatives and traditional washing stations to observe how high-quality Arabica beans are sorted, fermented, dried, and prepared for export. Enjoy a guided walk through lush shade-grown coffee forests while learning about sustainable farming practices and the natural environment that makes Yirgacheffe coffee unique. After breakfast, travel toward the Bale Mountains region and continue into the remarkable Harenna Forest, one of the last remaining natural wild Arabica coffee forests in the world. This ancient rainforest is known for its biodiversity, dramatic scenery, and naturally growing forest coffee that has been harvested by local communities for generations. Enjoy guided forest walks while learning about traditional coffee collection methods used by Oromo coffee gatherers. Visit remote forest coffee areas where coffee grows naturally under the shade of giant indigenous trees without plantation farming.
