Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

Pick up from your hotel or Kigali International Airport in Kigali by our professional guide, with an optional short city tour on request, then begin your journey north to Volcanoes National Park, a scenic drive of about 2–3 hours through Rwanda’s rolling countryside.

On arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy a relaxing lunch surrounded by beautiful views of the volcanoes. Take time to unwind and settle in after the journey.

In the afternoon, visit Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village for an engaging cultural experience where you’ll learn about traditional Rwandan life, customs, dance, and local heritage. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge near the park.

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll proceed to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a briefing at around 8:00 am. A park ranger will explain trekking rules, safety guidelines, and gorilla behavior, before assigning you to a gorilla family based on your fitness level and preferences.

You’ll then begin your trek through the dense forest, guided by experienced rangers along the trails. The hike can take 1 to 4 hours depending on the location of the gorilla group.

Once you find the gorillas, you’ll spend a magical one hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact in their natural habitat—a truly unforgettable wildlife encounter.

After the trek, return to your lodge for a well-deserved rest, a hearty meal, and time to reflect on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park & Return to Kigali

On your final day, enjoy an early breakfast before heading to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing on golden monkey trekking. A ranger will explain the rules, behavior of the monkeys, and what to expect during the experience.

You will then begin your trek through the bamboo forest in search of the endangered golden monkeys. The hike is generally moderate and shorter than gorilla trekking, offering a fun and active walk through beautiful vegetation. Once you locate the troop, you will spend time observing them as they play, jump between bamboo trees, and feed in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to your lodge for a hot lunch and some relaxation. Later, you will check out and transfer back to Kigali for your onward flight, marking the end of your safari experience.
