Nairobi - Maasai Mara
Your journey begins on day one with travel from Nairobi to a traditional Maasai village, known as a Manyatta, located on the borders of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Upon arrival, the community welcomes you with a vibrant ceremony featuring the Adumu jumping dance and traditional songs performed by village elders and women. In the afternoon, you join local women for a hands-on home-building workshop to learn how they construct their sustainable, mud-and-thatch houses called Inkajijik. As night falls, you gather around a central bonfire to listen to elders share oral histories, ancient folklore, and the symbolic meanings behind Maasai names.

The second day focuses on wilderness survival skills and intricate tribal craftsmanship, beginning with an early morning guided bush walk alongside a Maasai warrior. During this trek, your guide teaches you ancestral tracking techniques, the uses of indigenous medicinal plants, and the ancient art of starting a fire using only two sticks. After returning for a shared traditional lunch, you engage in an open conversation with community leaders about ancestral land rights and modern conservation challenges. The afternoon is dedicated to a beadwork workshop where village artisans teach you the cultural significance of different color combinations before helping you craft your own piece. You end the day assisting the warriors as they herd livestock back into the protective thorn-bush enclosure called a Boma.

The final day connects you with local commerce and concludes with a deep communal honor before your departure. You start the morning by visiting a bustling local Maasai market, such as the weekly gatherings in Sekenani or Talek, to witness community members bartering for livestock, colorful shuka fabrics, and handcrafted tools. Mid-day brings the most sacred part of the itinerary, where village elders hold a special naming ceremony to grant you a symbolic Maasai name based on the personality traits they observed during your stay.
