Upon arrival at Jinka Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and begin your scenic drive through the beautiful landscapes of the South Omo Valley toward Turmi, home of the Hamer people. Along the way, enjoy views of traditional villages, open savannah, and local communities that make this region one of Ethiopia’s most culturally diverse destinations.

In the afternoon, visit a traditional Hamer village to experience their unique culture, colorful clothing, elaborate hairstyles, and daily way of life. The Hamer are among the most famous ethnic groups in the Omo Valley and are well known for their rich traditions, dances, and hospitality. This cultural visit offers a fascinating introduction to the customs and lifestyle of the South Omo tribes. Overnight at Emerald Lodge or a comparable accommodation in Turmi.

Day 2

Excursion to Dassanech and Karo Tribes

Excursion to Dassanech and Karo Tribes

After breakfast, set out for a full-day cultural excursion exploring two of the most remarkable tribes of the South Omo Valley. Travel to Omorate to visit the Dassanech people, who live along the banks of the Omo River near the Ethiopian–Kenyan border. Cross the river by local boat (subject to availability) and experience their traditional lifestyle, distinctive housing, and rich cultural heritage.

Continue to the Karo tribe, one of Ethiopia’s smallest ethnic groups, renowned for their striking body painting, intricate decorations, and dramatic views over the Omo River. Learn about their customs, traditions, and everyday life in this remote region. Later, return to Turmi for overnight stay at Buska Lodge or a similar accommodation.

Day 3

Return from Turmi to Jinka – Visit Museum and Ari Village

Return from Turmi to Jinka – Visit Museum and Ari Village

After breakfast, depart from Turmi and drive back to Jinka through the scenic landscapes of the South Omo Valley, passing traditional villages and beautiful countryside along the way. Upon arrival in Jinka, visit the South Omo Research Center and Museum, where you will learn about the diverse ethnic groups of the Omo Valley, their cultures, traditions, and history.

Later in the afternoon, continue to a nearby Ari village to experience the daily life of the Ari people, one of the largest ethnic groups in the region. Discover their farming practices, traditional coffee preparation, and local crafts. This visit offers an authentic cultural experience and a deeper understanding of life in southern Ethiopia.
