Arrival and Introduction to the Arid Frontier

Depart from Nairobi in the early morning for the drive north, which typically takes 6 to 7 hours. As you cross the equator and descend into the semi-arid landscape, the vegetation shifts to dramatic scrubland. Upon arrival at the Elephant Bedroom Camp, check in and enjoy a hot lunch overlooking the river. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive. The Ewaso Ng'iro River banks are the best places to spot the reticulated giraffe and the elusive leopard, which frequently rests in the riverine trees. Return to the camp by sunset for a sundowner and dinner under the stars.

Full-Day Exploration of the Special Five

Dedicate this day to deep exploration. Start with an early morning game drive at 6:30 AM, when predators are most active and the temperatures are mild. This is the optimal time to track the Grevy’s zebra, which is larger and has narrower stripes than the common plains zebra. Return to the camp for a midday break to relax in your luxury tent. In the afternoon, head out for a second game drive, focusing on the open plains where the beisa oryx and gerenuk—the long-necked antelope that stands on its hind legs to browse—are commonly found.

Departure

On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the camp. As per your request, there are no game drives scheduled for this morning. Use this time to enjoy the amenities of the Elephant Bedroom Camp, perhaps taking a final walk near the riverbanks to observe the local birdlife or simply relaxing before your transfer back to Nairobi. You will depart the reserve mid-morning, arriving back in the capital by approximately 4:00 PM.
