Fly to Lalibela – Visit the First Group of Rock-Hewn Churches

Early in the morning, transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for your domestic flight to Lalibela, one of Ethiopia’s most remarkable historical and spiritual destinations. Upon arrival at Lalibela Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel.
After check-in and a short refreshment break, begin your exploration of the famous rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often referred to as the “New Jerusalem” of Ethiopia.

Hiking Excursion to Asheten Mountain

After breakfast, begin a scenic hiking excursion to Asheten Mountain, one of the most breathtaking viewpoints around Lalibela. The hike passes through beautiful landscapes, traditional villages, terraced farms, and local communities, offering an authentic glimpse into rural Ethiopian life.
Depending on your preference, the hike can be done fully on foot or partly with mule riding assistance.
Visit Asheten Maryam Monastery
At the summit, visit the historic Asheten Maryam Monastery, believed to have been founded before the churches of Lalibela. The monastery houses ancient religious manuscripts, crosses, and traditional treasures of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
From the mountain peak, enjoy panoramic views over the dramatic highlands surrounding Lalibela.

After breakfast, continue your exploration of Lalibela by visiting the Second Group of Churches, also known as the Eastern Cluster, including:
• Bete Amanuel – admired for its finely carved exterior architecture

• Bete Gabriel-Rufael
• Bete Mercoreos
Afternoon – Flight to Addis Ababa
Transfer to Lalibela Airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa.
Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, begin a half-day city tour of Ethiopia’s vibrant capital city.
