Windhoek to Sossusvlei

Arrive at Hosea Kutako International Airport where your Nature Travel Namibia guide will welcome you before travelling 4–5 hours to Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert. The scenic drive offers chances to see Common Ostrich, Gemsbok, Pale Chanting Goshawk, Sociable Weaver, and Greater Kudu. Arrive at your desert lodge in the afternoon and enjoy exploring the grounds for desert plants, birds, and smaller wildlife near the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei.

Exploring Sesriem, Deadvlei and Sossusvlei

After breakfast, explore the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei in the Namib Desert. Climb Dune 45 and Big Daddy, one of Namibia’s tallest dunes, visit the quiet Hiddenvlei, and walk across the white clay pan of Deadvlei with its ancient blackened acacia trees. The day also includes a visit to Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge carved by the Tsauchab River, with excellent desert scenery and photography opportunities.

Journey to Swakopmund

After breakfast, travel to the coastal town of Swakopmund through the dramatic landscapes of Namib-Naukluft Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scenic drive takes about 4 hours and may include a stop at Solitaire, famous for its Namibian apple pie. Arrive in Swakopmund, where Atlantic Ocean views, German colonial architecture and desert scenery make it an ideal base for the next two nights.

This morning after a great breakfast we discover the Namib Desert on a Living Desert Experience with a local guide, searching for desert-adapted wildlife including Namib Sand Gecko, Namaqua Chameleon, Peringuey’s Adder, scorpions, lizards, birds and unique desert plants.

After lunch in Swakopmund, we visit the famous Walvis Bay Lagoon or you can enjoy optional activities such as sandboarding, quad biking, or exploring the coastal town’s German colonial architecture, shops, cafés and Atlantic atmosphere.

This morning we head north along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, known for a shipwreck, Atlantic Ocean scenery and dramatic desert landscapes. Continue inland into Damaraland, home to Brandberg Mountain, Spitzkoppe and desert-adapted Elephant, Rhino, Zebra, and Lion. Visit the Organ Pipes, Petrified Forest, and Burnt Mountain before ending the day with a sundowner overlooking the rugged landscapes of one of Namibia’s most scenic regions.

Damaraland to Etosha National Park

Damaraland to Etosha National Park

After breakfast, we travel northeast to Etosha National Park with a visit to Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for more than 2,000 ancient rock engravings of wildlife and human footprints. Look out for the unique Welwitschia plant before continuing to southwestern Etosha. Arrive at your lodge near one of Africa’s top safari destinations, home to over 110 mammal species and exceptional wildlife viewing and photography.

Day 7

Etosha National Park Adventure

Etosha National Park Adventure

A full day in Etosha National Park with game drives in our own vehicle as we gradually travel toward the eastern side of the park, where we will stay for the next two nights. Wildlife viewing includes Etosha’s mammals and birdlife with over 350 species, including Kori Bustard, Blue Crane, Violet Woodhoopoe, Ruppell’s Parrot, Pygmy and Red-necked Falcon, Bare-cheeked and Southern Pied Babbler, and Burchell’s and Double-banded Courser. Enjoy photography opportunities in dramatic light and landscapes, with sunrise and sunset viewing. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Wildlife viewing in Etosha

Today is our final day in magical Etosha National Park and we will do morning and afternoon game drives in our own vehicle, focusing on key wildlife sightings. We will be on the lookout for African Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, Giraffe, Spotted Hyena, Greater Kudu, Gemsbok, and Springbok. We return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta during the heat of the day when wildlife is less active. End the day with dinner and relaxation under the African night sky.

After breakfast, we travel to Okonjima Nature Reserve where we will check in and the enjoy an afternoon game drive with the lodge. We will search for Leopard and other rare and protected species, with opportunities for birding and hiking. Okonjima is known for sightings of carnivores and endangered wildlife such as Aardvark, Pangolin, and Brown Hyena. (Optional additional activities can be added and booked in advance).
